So, last night's game, Jaguars/Titans, only on the NFL network: that's gotta be the least watched NFL game in living memory, right?
^ Jaguar's a British car, & the Titans were the original moniker for the N.Y. Jets their first few years! Primarily when they played in the Polo Grounds, the Baseball Jints' old home!
Even though I live near Cincinnati, I am not a Steelers hater. I've been to Pittsburgh MANY times (Love Primanti Bros). The Bengals play them in Pittsburgh next week.
Oh sweet jesus. I'm pretty sure this will be censured by the media, but Michael Bennett in the locker room after the game, on that run: "He ran like he was running for his freedom." I totally spit beer all over the laundry I was folding (which is a bitch as we fly home tomorrow). W.T.F?!?!? The hell does that come from?!?!
Here's the full quote. Defensive end Michael Bennett: “It was the best run I’ve ever seen. I felt like he was running for freedom or something. Boy, he was gone. They haven’t had a run like that since the Underground Railroad.” http://seattletimes.com/html/seahawks/2025286588_seahawkssidebarjenks22xml.html
So the Pats have home field advantage all the way through, so all these guys on sports radio are talking about giving top players a rest next week to protect against injury. WTF, they are football players. You play and you play hard.
A great result for the Bengals and their fans, to be sure, but that was a really crappy game, about as hard to watch as a Denver/Cincinnati game is likely to get. And I know crappy games; I'm a Jets fan.
But the decision-makers are the head coach and other management, not the players. If you lose Tom Brady in a meaningless game, then you have to run through the playoffs with a QB who is not Tom Brady, when you could have had Tom Brady. If you play the backup, then you have Tom Brady for the playoffs and the team has a little experience with the backup in case Brady gets injured during the playoffs. Repeat for other key players. Of course, the risk is that the rested players will not get back into gear when they start playing again, but that's part of the risks you calculate. Tom Brady (to continue the obvious example) shouldn't have that problem, as he's been here plenty of times. I agree with your sentiment, but the practicality means resting key players makes sense sometimes. Especially in a highly physical sport like American football.
Yeah, Jacksonville has only been in the league for the last 20 years and the Houston Oilers became the Tennessee Titans as recently as 15 years ago.
Nice. In the same night the hawks take the NFC West, secure a first round bye, and home field advantage through the playoffs, the whiners announce that that Harbaugh is gone. :winning:
That's been coming for days, if not weeks. I stand by my prediction that Seattle goes back to the Super Bowl and will likely face New England. I don't see any of the AFC teams beating the Patriots. Dallas poses the biggest threat to Seattle, but they're not quite ready yet and the Seahawks will win a rematch if it comes to that.
Don't get me wrong. I'd love to see my team go to its ninth Super Bowl. Unlike lots of people, though, I'm a realist and the Dallas defense still has too many flaws to get there this year. That said, I'm amazed at what they've done so far. I thought they'd win 5 or 6 games, tops.
San Francisco proves they are stupid beyond all doubt in letting go of Jim Harbaugh. Supposedly he was too "different" for them. Well a lot of great coaches are the "different" ones........ 44-19-1, three NFC title games, one Superbowl appearance. Shame that it looks like Michigan University is going to pick him up. Dolphin could have really used him but he probably wouldn't have come down here anyway..... Hopefully Coach Philbin of the Dolphins is fired along with the rest of the coaches and the whole front office. And Wallace the quitter during the game either cut or traded. But I don't think the owner knows what they hell he's doing.
