Oh, come on folks. You don't think Shatner craves and loves the spotlight, regardless of the reason? I love Shat as much as the next Trek fan, but he's a camera whore if I've ever seen one.
No, I think it was pretty heartfelt. It's well known that they have been very close and carry a great deal of respect for one another. Would you prefer that he not comment on the death of his friend? George Takei also had something very nice to say, but then we all know he's just a social media whore.
Leonard Nimoy has made a tremendous contribution to the world. His portrayal of Spock demonstrates the value and validity of rational thought.
The last week was reason enough to drink today, now this I wished I'd gotten into Trek sooner, so could've had the chance to meet him at a con or something.
Shatner to miss Nimoy's funeral. https://ca.celebrity.yahoo.com/news...-funeral-feel-really-234500410-us-weekly.html Sorry, I know charity work is important but if Shatner truly loved Nimoy "like a brother" he would drop what he's doing and pay his proper respects. That's what human beings do. So tell me again why I was an asshole to rightly point out that it's always all about the Shat? RIP Leonard Nimoy. You lived long and prospered and you shall be missed.
Someone pointed out in the Red Room thread that for the Jewish community, attending the shiva is far more important than the funeral, which is usually done within the first 24 hours, if possible. As for Shat's initial comment, I didn't see any MEMEME in it.
It's pouring in L.A. right now. In a winter in which there's been very little rain, in the midst of a very long drought, we are on the day of the memorial service experiencing a deluge, complete with thunder (so rare in SoCal it's startling). Pathetic fallacy, or is the place on Earth where he made his home mourning its favorite Vulcan?
I found it odd we're getting rain in March, too. The bulk of the rainy season in much of California is January. Hmmmmm...
1. Depending upon how Shatner's contract for appearing at the benefit is worded, he could be out a considerable amount of money for not being there. (Not merely losing out on his appearance fee, but being charged a penalty for failing to show.) 2. Nimoy's dead and certainly doesn't care if Bill's there or not. 3. Like Nimoy, Shatner's Jewish, so he knows what's important and what isn't. And finally, 4. Do you really think it would be a good idea to have a raging egomaniac like Shatner at Nimoy's funeral?
Leave William Shatner alone! I think @Tuckerfan's comments upthread are right on. Shatner not being there isn't making this about Shatner. People who are hating on Shatner for not being there are.
It always rains at Hollywood funerals. On a more serious note, I believe there's a theory that postulates that our collective unconscious can actually influence reality. Not sure how much credence I'd give the idea, but there's a lot of sad around Nimoy's death.
The morning was postcard-gorgeous – sunny, cool, little puffy clouds (we tend to have either cloudless skies or haze) – and I understand the service was at 9:00 a.m., so at least the family was spared bad weather then. But by afternoon it was Noah’s Ark weather, and it continued well into the night. Makes you wonder…
From Facebook friends, I'm getting reports that it actually snowed in Huntington Beach. That's a serious
More like hail according to news reports, but a serious regardless. Man, between this and the three inches of snow San Diego got in December, this has been one wacky ass SoCal winter.
