This is the woman that's been married four times, right? "Conscience" my ass. She doesn't have religious convictions, she's just another homophobe. :dayton:

She's scheduled for a contempt hearing for Thursday. She's should, at the least, end up incarcerated until she resigns or is removed from office. If she's referred for prosecution for criminal contempt--a distinct possibility--she may end up behind bars for longer than that.

Demand I spread and promote my religious beliefs?!? Heavens no.
Suggest that I try to be a living example of my beliefs, sure in the knowledge that the example alone will capture the interest of others, and to possess a willingness to share those beliefs with those who seem to be genuinely interested in learning them as a result of seeing that example? Yes, this.

It isn't my fault that so many here go bat crazy over what I post. If they simply allowed what I posted to stand without comment I would have less reason to reply.

Again, one spreads and promotes beliefs by being a good example of those beliefs.

And if being a "good example" includes active promotion (attempting to convert people) of those beliefs?

You are making a classical agnostics in Americanargument Chardman.

Arguing that "religious freedom is just fine as long as the religious people don't annoy me with it".

So you'd have no problem with a Muslim call to prayer over a loud speaker instead of church bells in your neighborhood?
I mean, f you get to annoy, that's got to be equal across the board, right?

    The first amendment

    1) Doesn't say all religions are equal.
    2) Isn't the be all end all in American legal or constitutional thought.
    3) Is flawed as it is a work of man as well.

Forcing one's views on another is immoral.Make the information available to the willing student is quite another thing altogether.

Er, no, just the opposite. Religious freedom is fine as long as I don't annoy others with mine. We're supposed to teach willing pupils, not indoctrinate the unwilling. Religious freedom is only free if others are free to not be subjected to it, if they don't want to be.

Pretty much the same thing, baring practices that are illegal of course. We can discuss this further, in person, at ScareFest.

How do one spread and promote their beliefs to the disinterested or unwilling, other than by example, or by force?

So you have no problem for example with Jehovah's Witnesses going from door to door to "spread the good news"?

Yes, I do. Bothering me at home is subjecting me to their faith against my will. How fucking stupid are you, that you can't get this?

ETA... I keep "Pagan tracts" near the front door, so that when The Witness show up, hand me "The Watchtower", and ask to "share" their good news with me, I hand them a copy of "My Lord Beelzebub", and offer to share my good news with them in exchange That's usually enough to send 'em running for the hills.
