Holy shit! This judge actually knows something about guns and can have an intelligent conversation about them! Anyway, how can you have a 1,000 dollar tax on handguns when most handguns only cost about half that? How is it fair to double the cost of something? Regardless this judge!
If you put a $1 tax on guns, people will grumble but it's small enough that it will probably survive a court challenge. If you put a $1000 tax on guns, it's absolutely clear that you're trying to price people out of or discourage gun ownership. And that should absolutely not be permitted by the courts.
Of course, this will get appealed to the 9th Circuit which will immediately overturn all the pro-gun decisions.
