Something I have fun doing - take a telephoto shot of an airliner flying over the house, google the registry number and find out where it's from. This is a Lufthansa Airbus A340, registered in Germany as D-AIHA. It's flight number LH412 from Munich to Newark. I took the picture at 6:27PM and the plane landed at Newark (25 miles away) 7 minutes later at 6:34. It's currently being turned around for a flight (LH413) back to Munich, departing at 8:20.

Of course it would take out the tree that made little white flowers in the spring. The big fucker that poops brown burrs all over my patio and fills up my gutters is just fine though. :garamet:

We had a raffle for a 47" TV at work this week. I won! ... I won a first aid kit. :/

don't complain! That kit will come in handy when you slit your wrist in despair.
Wait a minute - only four people in the raffle? Those are pretty good odds. Wow you suck!
I hope you don't waste your allowance money on lottery tickets. ;)

The three people behind the table were running the lottery. Everybody in the cafeteria (behind camera) had entered.

Am I alone in thinking that one of the prizes should have been a Swingline stapler like from Office Space? I think of that movie every time I see a bunch of office cubicles.

My office literally has those cubicles. We remodeled the newsroom at the same time that filming on that movie was wrapping in Austin and they bought the cubicle dividers for a song.

They'll be going away permanently soon because they're remodeling the newsroom again. :marathon:

You have no idea how appropriate that strip is.

The remodeling will consist of getting rid of the Office Space cubicles and going with that open office bullshit, which no one likes. :dayton:

Plus, around the time that the project is complete, two of our producers will be returning from maternity leave. :soma:

The last article I saw about open-office said that somewhere around seventy percent of office workers despise the idea, but it's still trendy enough that management keeps rolling right along with it. :jayzus:

It was open office when I started here in the 80s. It must have been a full acre of open space with chin-high cubicles. How the hell we did classified work back then, I can't imagine. My boss then was famous for sneezing real loud about six times in a row. One day he did that, and a voice from about 100 yards away yelled "That's enough, Mike!!"

Today's backyard raptor seems to be a Cooper's Hawk.

That hawk is very smart & regal looking! I went to a bird of prey refuge (injured by hunters & cars and other predators, etc) in North Carolina once - owls & hawks & falcons & whatnot and it was a lot of fun.

Taking pictures of planes flying over the house again and checking them on FlightAware. This is an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 787-8, registered ET-ARF, on the last 20 miles of a 5,184 mile flight from Lomé, Togo, Africa, to Newark, NJ! It will be going directly back to Togo tonight.

Ya know, ya get used to a vulture flying over the neighborhood once in a while. But when they start staring at you from across the street like they're waiting...
