The difference, once again, is that saying of yourself that you are a Nazi is saying of yourself that you intend to murder people. That's not some feat of interpretation or group condemnation. It is at the heart of what National Socialism, by its own definition, is about.

It is indeed entirely legal in many states to openly carry a loaded gun. I am glad my state is not one of them but the argument that simply lawfully carrying a gun is a threat does not pass legal muster in most states.

damn straight they should have a heavy police presence in Skokie since it's heavily Jewish. Public safety is their job - the cops did the right thing in that situation.

Because I haven't seen evidence of anything else. I've seen videos of Antifa starting some fights, but no one else. Arrest and charge the ones that started fights.

There have been several reports of altercations and beatings, initiated by Nazis, and even more if people frightened to leave houses or churches because they understood they would be in physical danger if they did.

Absolutely arrest and prosecute everyone who started a fight, no matter on which side. But the question we were talking about was whether you have to wait for the Nazis to kill someone before you are allowed to defend yourself. And the argument that there should be no reasonable expectation of them killing someone because they didn't kill anyone except for when they did makes no sense to me.

The answer is No. You have to have reasonable fear that an attack is "imminent", not "already happened".

I hadn't heard that one yet. But it is precisely in point. Did this man have to hide and disguise himself, or wait until he was physically harmed? Does he have to accept living with that fear?

Odd that some here will accept the usual argument in police shootings that the officer "feared for their safety" from a 14-year old black kid who was "big for his age" but an actual Nazi right in someone's face, chanting racist abuse and waving a torch about? Nah, nothing worth kicking off over.

And them just being present in the street at a legal protest where they are allowed to be is not imminent.

That's important because according to K. just the presence of Nazi scum is enough for you to attack and even kill them in self defense.

Clearly he wants Americans to go to prison for breaking the law.

A guy in your face with a tiki torch yelling stuff could be seen as a reasonable threat given the right circumstances, depending on stuff like body language and what he or she's yelling. But simply saying, "I'm a Nazi" doesn't rise to the level that justifies getting physical in self defense.

It's certainly possible that someone can convince a judge and/or jury that they sucker punched some guy in self defense just because he was standing there holding a flag (the "affluenza" defense comes to mind), but the odds of it working are extremely slim IMHO.

And the law will also take into account that if the Nazi is protesting and you get up in his face yelling and screaming your odds get even more slim. In fact based on what you do you could find yourself being the one arrested.

One person in a group doing something threatening or harmful does not give you license to treat any of the rest of them as if they are.

try it out! Every time K says "nazi" put in the word "black" and tell me if anyone else said this it wouldn't sound like a racist rant - "attack them before they attack you because you know they will" etc.etc. Take the Pepsi challenge and see if K isn't espousing some epic hypocrisy.

You better be, because if your symbols-and-racist-rhetoric-equals-imminent-threat philosophy holds, that would follow logically. If we agree that they're a threat as they are, you can't object to me shooting them.
