Inconceivable! Seriously, I adore Wallace Shawn, and wish him many more years, from one socialist to another.
This post is real. This is one of the most pathetic things I've ever seen a major candidate for any position post.
I can't decide if "I'm going to intentionally mangle a furrin'-sounding name" is indicative of his usual sixth-grade emotional maturity level, or if it's a cynical attempt to reach the voters who love that sort of thing. (It could, of course, be both.)
The chicken little shit that's going on here is pretty funny New York is too big to fail I doubt Mandami's policies are going to have much overall effect and I'm sure that the money and the power behind the scenes will be fighting a lot of what he does When it's all said and done New York will still be New York And to be honest if people were that worried they'd get a better candidate to run against him than Andrew Fucking Cuomo
kind of got that here, too. the only other candidate in our last mayoral election that could've touched Olivia Chow was Ana Bailao (who's maybe 2 degrees closer to centrist than OC). Former police chief Mark Saunders got barely a quarter of their vote counts in comparison... even with Doug Ford's mid election interference. Interestingly enough, Olivia's approval rating is still well over 50% despite the increased disapproval in the direction of the city. Maybe even Ford country is starting to clue in that their guy needs to spend less effort on fucking over Toronto and instead focus on running the province?
I think that given the circumstances Schumer hasn’t done as bad a job as Senate Minority Leader as those who attack him claim. But no one should be in a leadership position of a political party who not only fails to endorse his party’s candidate but can even say if he voted for his party’s candidate. I mean, yeah, sure if it comes out the candidate was fucking little kids, sure, but we aren’t Republicans. Mamdani isn’t Roy Moore. Mamdani is progressive Dem running in one of the most progressive cities in the US. What the fuck?!?!
Bernie Sanders made his bones as a politician as Mayor of Burlington, which ain't NYC, but is still a pretty good size place and he must not have fucked things up too badly since he got re-elected 3 or 4 times. I would argue that it would be easier fuck up a smaller city than a behemoth like New York.
Honestly, Who gives a shit? City politics is nothing like state or federal politics. No city voter is going to make their decision based on Chuck Schumer. The leaders of those local communities have far more pull in that race than anyone in D.C. Also , no one living in this country should be forced to say publicly who they voted for. Their right to privacy trumps everything else.
Andrew Cuomo had so much baggage that he lost the democratic primary and is now running as an independent. Democrats outnumber Republicans 2 to 1 so the Republican nominee has no chance. Honestly, the only drama in that race is how long after the polls close before the race is called for Mamdani. Yes on 50 in California also looks to be a lock so the real battles are happening in Virginia and New Jersey.
Virginia was an early call for the Dem and the NJ race early returns are heavily Dem. If California follows that trend 50 might not just win, it might win bigly. Too few races to call it a Blue Wave, but it still might be enough to set off a Brown Alert in some Republican quarters.
Its hard to call it a wave of any kind when all races were in deep blue states in on off election year.
Mamdani is the projected winner for New York City. https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/5588198-mamdani-progressive-politics-nyc/ https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2025-elections/new-york-city-mayor-results
You are right that "wave" is too strong a word, but if there are any professionals left in the Republican party they won't get any comfort from tonight's results. Virginia is purple and NJ is at least purple-ish. New York City's last successful mayor was center-right Mike Bloomberg. The California results will be interesting.
I’m not advocating randos be hauled off the street and water boarded to find out their vote. But literally one of the top two highest elected officials in a party should be able to say he voted for his party’s nominee no? If you want to lead a party you should vote for your party. Is that really too much to ask?
Purple is used to describe swing states Whats purplish about states that have voted democrats for President the last 20 plus years? The only states deeper blue than Virginia and New Jersey are New York and California. A true purple state would be Pennsylvania or Michigan, which have flipped back and forth the past ten years.
