If you are a western woman, the very last place you should go is any Islamic country.

The policy of the UAE sounds (and is) incredibly barbaric, but it's a logical extension of their beliefs about the role of women. If you're married, you're supposed to remain under the control of your husband. If you're not, you're supposed to be under the control of your father or older brother or other male relative. If you get raped, it must be because you went somewhere where you were unsupervised. And (to add insult to injury), it's your own indecent behavior that caused some good Muslem boy to give in to temptation. Hence the "adultery" charge.

Just say no to Islam. Women can be fun, but you don't want to own one.

Having had bad experiences with my own country's consular while abroad, I hope she crushes them in court and gets everything she wants. I found them to be some of the most useless individuals I've ever had to deal with, and what made it even more frustrating is my tax dollars were contributing to their sheer incompetence.

When people come to America you expect them to observe American laws because they are the laws of the land, whether they personally agree with they or not.

Equally, if you go to another country the same applies. In fact, it's long been the policy of British Government not to intervene if you fall foul of another county's laws because the fact is that it is given in jurisprudence that if the choose to enter into another country's borders then you are deemed to accept their laws.

Adultery is a crime in some Islamic countries through extraction from Sharia Law. Morally I do not agree with such a law. It is repugnant. But, at the same time, I also am not going to ever condone sluts who commit adultery and are stupid enough to do so in another country where it is illegal.

Yes, but the two systems are hardly comparable. Nothing a woman does here will warrant her getting raped, nor the law blaming her for it after the fact. Our laws are based on respect for the individual rather than adherence to some 7th Century tribal nonsense. A woman could walk down the street naked here and still receive the protection of the law from unwanted sexual contact.

In Islamic countries, any woman unaccompanied by a husband or family member is seen to be, in effect, "asking for it." Hence, my advice.

Accepting that other countries have their own unique laws and believing those laws barbarous are two different positions.

I do not condone breaking the law in any country, either. However, if you're contemplating travel to a land where the law is radically different from your own expectations, you should think twice.

Having been to Dubai I can say that's easy to do for westerners, but if you don't do your research beforehand you can fall foul. Simple as that.
