    I used to get Mcdonald's gift certificates from relatives as a kid for birthdays and such, and they'd only be enough for a couple packets of fries.
    And 8 times out of 10, they'd expire before I could get to a Micky's.

    That's crypto.
    Except crypto has more hoops to jump through, but yeah, that's about it.

    Yeah there are a bunch of reasons that Bitcoin doesn't make sense. However a decade ago I was one of the people arguing that Bitcoin wouldn't make sense because of consequences like a high value meaning many megawatt hours of power being needed just to mine a single coin. Really underestimated the insanity.
