I absolutely agree about Aunt Alice, but insecurity and lack of self-awareness do not cross the bridge into dishonesty. Well, the TV cast of MASH thought about as well of Gary Burghoff as we do of FF, from what I gather.

Really? Their interviews always spoke well of him, but then again it could just be blowing smoke, like how actors would say Chevy Chase was great to work with, and then later we found out everyone hated his guts.

He hated the role and at times was less than professional. I remember seeing a story where Alan Alda pulled him aside at one point and told him "If someone was willing to hand me a million dollars, I think I would be on time." Alda realized the cast were in a once in a lifetime situation. It was understandable why Larry Linville quit: the character was a one note and he got sick of the role. The producers were also sick of him because there were only so many gags you could make about an incompetent doctor and the situation also stifled the Hoolihan character. Wayne Rogers got disgruntled because he was supposed to be a lead character in an ensemble, but he was becoming overshadowed as Pierce became the breakout character. McLean Stevenson simply overrated his own abilities. So did Burghoff. Acting is such a brutal profession that it amazes me when actors jump ship from a successful show thinking the grass is greener somewhere else.
