Betcha he won't respond to this. :diacanu:

Given that politicians on both sides accept campaign donations, you'd think he'd welcome the chance to bash Democrats, but he's either deluded, lying, or just looking for attention. Many of his recent posts suggest the last.

It's funny that Schmerple uses the term "NRA policy' in his post. The NRA obviously doesn't set policy officially, but has a huge influence on those who do. That's power.

Who's the first lobbying group that gets mentioned after a shooting incident?

Which group is specifically kowtowed to by any Republican looking to win elected office?

    Soft power is still power.

No. That can't be it. They may not spend a lot on direct lobbying, but they spend a shit ton of money on campaigning. Things like t.v. commercials saying "Time's running out" for Liberals and the mainstream media...or though the millions of readers who get their voting orders through American Rifleman...or through direct marketing to get their message to their members that may not get the magazine. That's where their power is.

Saying, "But they don't spend all that much on candidates" while true, is a red herring.

There is no insane amount of gun violence, gun violence has gone down since the nineties. But let's not let facts get in the way stripping away our rights.

"Stripping away our rights." Jesus fucking Christ. Sorry, Skippy, but maybe some of us don't want to live in a culture that glorifies guns to the point of fetishism. No one is going to take away your precious surrogate dicks of death. Sane people just feel that the amount of gun violence that does exist in the US is a bit much.

True (even though that report was from 5 years ago, I suspect the trend has been the same). Homicides are down.

However the frequency and number of innocents being massacred by assholes with guns that were legally purchased is increasing. Would you call this sane?

Well, since you're citing NPR: https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsa...lence-how-the-u-s-compares-to-other-countries

Number 31 worldwide, and way behind every other industrialized nation. But, hey, it's not like we're Central America or anything.

Again, gun violence has gone down and will likely continue to drop. What we see on the news has likely always been happening, but with the 24 hour news cycle and sensationalism as well their own political agenda, the media hyper-focuses on it. You're using the same logic that was used after 9/11 to trample other rights. It's exactly what the government wants, but I'm no so willing to give it up.

Anyway let me get this straight - if you know more about guns than just "guns go BANG!" and actually shoot them or have ever shot them it is a fetish.
    Am I missing something here?

I get that not everyone is a gun expert - I'm not a car expert. But what's annoying is people who don't know what they are talking about telling gun owners that they don't "need" the type of guns they shoot. Perhaps (going out on a limb here) there are so many different types of guns because guns serve many purposes. :chris:
Need to hunt elk out west? A scoped bolt action rifle in .300 Winchester Mag would be great - but maybe not the best choice for home defense, whereas a 12 gauge Remington 1100 semi-auto shotgun would fit the bill nicely, but would be worthless for a 200 yard shot at an elk. This is no more acting on a "fetish" than Home Depot selling more than one type of hammer or garden fertilizer, or Food Lion selling more than one cut of beef.

    Good points, of.

These needs don't deserve federal protection anymore than buying a cordless screwdriver does.
