It says central florida. It sounds like this is floribama area. You know, where the armadillos are much more common, and people are much closer to each other and nature. I would say since this is a disease that is in armadillos you might want to note they seem to be in the areas effected. I find the whole "it is in florida" to be as silly as considering NY to be one solid region. I would imagine the same goes for places like california too. You have a state of multiple very different environments and populations. There is a much larger distance for something to travel from jacksonville to Miami or Pensacola than to Atlanta or Columbia SC. I do not even know what they mean by central florida? Is that Orlando, Tampa, Daytona, or Tallahassee. Any of those could be considered "central by some people.
According to the stats in the article Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton counties all have had zero cases. Brevard has the highest numbers.

leprosy is easy to treat, the problem in most 3rd world countries is diagnosis and finding treatment, plus the costs.
I made that up. WHO provides free treatment in countries where leprosy is endemic. Maybe they'll throw us a lifeline.
The economies of those counties are built around the military which may or may not have something to do with that.
