Are you asking if I'm less outraged when a Democrat uses accounting tricks to evade taxes than I am when a Republican tries to shut down gay marriage while fishing for gay sex in bathroom stalls? If so, not really, but mostly because it's where the person is trying to derive their authority. It's rare that anyone tries to shove a bible in my face to convince me to pay more taxes, but it's a lot more common for someone to shove one in my face and tell me how we need to deprive someone of their rights because of their ridiculously primitive and stupid notions of 'sin'. No, nobody is qualified to preach. I already said Weiner is a sleaze for trying to cheat on his wife, he's just not a sleaze and a hypocrite.
Iowahawk does it again. Farewell, My Weiner Excerpts from the new Inspector Dan Rather mystery More at the link.
Weiner’s Office Calls Police After CBS 2′s Marcia Kramer Asks For An Interview http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2011/06...about-twitter-photo-time-to-get-back-to-work/ "If Weiner thinks this is going away anytime soon, he’s got another thing coming. There were dozens of journalists on permanent stakeout outside his door all day."
You should be ashamed! A pun like that is really a low blow! Oh, wait, maybe I shouldn't use a term like that in this context...
Anthony Weiner is probably the most arrogant horse's ass currently in Congress. I hope his weiner gets roasted while he dies in a fire.
"A lot more common," huh? Really? That's weird, because I keep hearing about people getting bibles "shoved in their face," and yet after thirty years in "the bible belt" I have never -- not once -- seen it happen. Not to me, and not to anyone who was with me. What part of the country are you in, where this is "a lot more common"? I ask this because it's pretty "common" to pay taxes here -- here where people tend to take offense when the guy who writes the tax magically gets out of paying it himself. Also, I'm pretty up to date on all the arguments against "gay marriage," and it occurs to me that despite all the caricatures I have never actually heard someone use the argument that homosexuality is "a sin." Is that really the argument they use where you live???
Sententious aphorisms presented as axiomatic?!!?! ROFL. Next we'll hear about the empirical basis of morality!!!
Having seen some of the coverage of this, I'm left wondering two things: 1) Why won't answer the question of whether or not the picture is of him? If someone showed me a pic of someone's crotch I could answer in under ten seconds as to whether or not it was me. 2) Why, during his press conferance in the rotunda, was Rep. Wiener so testy? Oh, and:
Michigan. If I had a dime for everytime someone told me that homosexuality is a sin because of the bible, or gay marriage violates the religious sanctity of marriage, or abortion is a sin, I'd have enough money to buy a decent pair of headphones to not have to listen to people. Contrary to what most people believe, Michigan is a pretty conservative state.
Two things: first - a musical salute! NSFW!!!!! [yt=My Dick in a Tweet]1-sb8e3P4LM&feature=youtu.be[/yt] Second, for Kyle wherever you are... Weinergate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've made the same observation a time or two. The reason I was given for having never seen any such behavior despite living in the Bible Belt all my life, is that apparently the Bible Belt is the only place in the country where Evangelicals don't go out on the streets routinely to harass, bully, and in general, opress people. Personally, I still think 99% of those type anecdotes are pulled out of people's collective asses, but I could be wrong.
I've known of, and witness, the typical "visitation Night" from many SB churches. Basically a team of people going out and visiting the homes in the neighborhood and saying "yall ought to visit us" but it's - with the exception of the occasional tightly-wound new convert - always very non-intrusive, very gentle and non-judgmental. I can submit as evidence the fact that both ofthe churches where I was a long time member know of my current "life of sin" and not once has either of them dispatched a team to help me "get right" - and I've also been invited to two or three local churches that i can be pretty confident don't really like the idea of my showing up - but I've never gotten the "you need to get right" lecture. Another factor is that it is possible for a very very tiny minority of strident individuals to harass a HUGE number of people.
Y'know....I don't care. Only religion gets a pass on this sales model. Would you like Mountain Dew coming to your door? Colgate? How about the fucking Geico caveman? And shit, their products have a practical fucking use! We got commercials dancing in the middle of our fucking shows now, if I told you 20 years ago we'd be putting up with that, you'd shit an eggroll. But we put up with it now, don't we? And now ads ooze out of our goddamned phones. I assure you if Snickers could afford to pay people to flash-mob your house, they would. BUT, it costs nothing to brainwash people with some Jesus, and make 'em do it themselves. It's just as offensive, but you've just gotten used to it. That's all it is. The only difference.
If you'd said Pyrat, Pepperidge Farms or Hooters... Wait... you mean it's not normal to shit eggrolls?
Well it would make some sense. If you assume everyone around you believes the same as you, what cause would you have for proselytizing?
Well, there you go -- the answer to evangelism. Just get a t-shirt that reads: Praise Jesus ..........Allah ..........Yahweh ..........Buddha ..........Xenu ..........Chuck Norris And you're set!
you've never heard of door-to-door sales? or fund raising? And besides - saying "yall come visit our church" is not exactly spiritual assault.
Maybe I needed to take a shit, or a piss, or was in the middle of making a sandwich, or maybe I just felt like flogging my dong, my time should be my own, every last fucking picosecond. I have to walk out to the door, and it's some wasteful bullshit, you've fucked my day, I'll never get that back, never. I'm gonna die, and rot in the ground, and be scattered back to the universe when the sun goes red giant, and that's all there is. By stealing that whole minute, they've actually murdered me a little. Spiritual assault? 'Damned right.
