I recently discovered that Fairfax County High School has cell phone jammers installed on campus, so when the kids are in the building, their phones don't work. You have to walk outside and a short distance away to get a signal.

Every movie theater in America should be set up like that.

I know a pastor who told his congregation, at the beginning of a Sunday morning worship service: "I have good news for you: You can turn your cell phones back on after the service."

He was really embarassed when his own phone, in his pocket, rang during the message! He had forgotten to turn it off...

I don't know if his church ever let him forget it!

I for one am willing to suspend my opposition to capital punishment where those who engage in this behavior are concerned.

I can't stand talking in the theater. Not being able to text? That's stupid, unless you're in a very, very dark theater.

If you think someone shouldnt' be able to text during Fast Five, you're an idiot. :)

Unless their phone is on vibrate or making noise. :)

I thought that was against the law as the FCC sees it as interfering with something they regulate.

At a theater I was at once, and this admittedly happened only one time, the General Manager of the place came to our showing minutes before the movie started and gave a similar speech, in person!

She literally asked everyone to take out their phones and turn them off, and said they would kick people out if movie was disturbed etc, and then....said if you notice someone on their phone, feel free to tell them....because they hand out free movie passes for those who 'help keep the theater enjoyable for everyone.' Then there was also some bit about how would you behave if you came over to her living room or something etc.

The video is neat, but the speech this lady gave, was creepy and way out there! The friend I was with that day, she and I still wonder every time we go to that theater if the audience is gonna get another 'talking to' before the movie.

A lit up cell phone even in a non-very very dark theater stands out like a beacon.

And I for one would go to this theater if they opened one down here.

In Congo and Madagascar, people use their cells phones as flashlights. That says about all that needs to be said concerning their use in a movie theatre.

If you want to be able to do other things during a movie, rent the DVD and do as you like in your own home. It's really quite simple.

I don't have a problem turning my phone off during a movie, just cause I want to be distracted from real life for awhile....but I really can't see being annoyed at the light of someone texting. Noise is way more annoying, IMO.
