That was a "point" in the last primary, but it is not something Trump can use against her if he wants to pretend he is going to be tough on crime for the independents. Her being California AG would directly lead back to his felonies and indictments. That argument was used to shift primary votes from her to Bernie because he was supposedly less authoritarian than she was, but that argument does not work with Trump. I am sure we will see the argument, but anyone who puts it out as a reason to not vote for her over Trump is clearly a stealth racist and sexist who is willing to go for Trump because he is a white man over a black woman. The only thing I can say to that is @Raoul the Red Shirt needs to think about dropping some facebook racists from his friends list.
I've heard Kamala the Cop before, but mostly from far-left whiners that probably don't vote in the first place. (I'm surprised our mutual friend hasn't already re-registered just to complain about her.) But calling her a cop isn't exactly the worst thing when her opponent is a convicted felon with several more trials pending. Making the narrative "Kamala the Cop vs. Don the Con" doesn't exactly help Trump.
There's a little known story of confederates after the Civil War that were so butt-hurt over losing, they couldn't bring themselves to live in America anymore, and went down to South America. They didn't get along with anyone, wouldn't work their own fields, tried and failed to enslave the local populace, and mostly starved to death. The few that survived squeaked by, and they interbred with the locals, and their last descendant was a 90-something black guy who was buried in his great-grandpa's confederate uniform. I hope MAGA goes out like that. Except they pick Saudi Arabia for the woman enslavement. And then there's a feminist revolution.
Since Biff and his taint-lickers think it's impossible for him to lose at all without the other side cheating, it'll be even worse than 2020. Obama brought out a bunch of ugly, hateful shit but at least he was a man. A brown-skinned woman now? The MAGAts will lose what little is left of their minds.
$86.3 million in less than 24 hours. Reportedly large donors have pledge $150 million in new money to Biden (now Harris) supporting PACS since the announcement.
Effectively anyone that the "fantasy politics" crowd were speculating as potential challengers. It will be over this week and only a fool would give it a go at the convention (Marianne Willamson, for example) because they have nothing to lose.
Yeah, I don't think we're getting out of this without some collateral damage. Hopefully it'll be worth it. If Trump loses this time, he's probably done. But he didn't start this. MAGA is just a rebranded, intensified TEA Party; the sentiments have been simmering for some time. It might be better in the long run if it boils over instead of cooling down, and slipping back into the shadows.
I have a funny feeling they'll try to claim it's illegal for Kamala to certify her own victory and attempt to storm the capitol again. Fortunately, a constitutionally immune from prosecution Joe Biden will be the one in charge of security that day.
Early "what makes you an expert?" speculation from me re VP. IMO there's a short list, and there's a long list which will get discussed but something would have to change for them to be in play. I'll assume for the sake of the list that they don't have the boldness to nominate an all female ticket this time, and that other than maybe someone Hispanic (of which their are few well positioned) they'll probably be white. My breakdown, with short-listers in bold. KINDA in order of likelihood but only loosely: Andy Beshear - the clubhouse leader as they say; love the guy as a future president, but feel like he'd be wasted as a VP to a younger president and probably would rather not get out of his office early to do that; Josh Shapiro - similar to above, has the advantage of being from a crucial state where he's very popular; new to the job and may feel it's not the right time, can support her without being on the ticket; Pete Buttigieg - speculation (which I agree with) is that she'd want someone who she's very familiar with and sympatico on most everything and he checks all those boxes; the best communicator in the party and proven effective defender of and advocate for the administration's accomplishments; bigotry shouldn't be a factor because it's already priced in with Harris at the top and there's a pretty complete overlap; Reportedly just did a call with his 2020 donors to rally them to support her; IMO, he's clearly the best choice and the top 3 are really the only ones that should be seriously considered; Roy Cooper - swing state dude, that's it; Old White Guy vibe, not particularly charismatic or camera friendly, if he wasn't from a close state he wouldn't be mentioned (though he's been a fine governor) Mark Kelly - Another swing state guy with the same weaknesses, hampered by the fact that the Senate is so sharply split that you'd have to be very careful about clearing a seat unless it was an exceedingly safe seat; Gavin Newsom - Same-state conflict, doesn't come across as a guy who wants to be anyone's #2; JP Prizker - billionaires do not typically aspire to be VP Tim Waltz - maybe a super dark horse, has been very effective but no national profile and not particularly telegenic (though moreso than Tony Evers) Jared Polis - Similarly. Good at your job is just the first line item and he doesn't necessarily check boxes beyond that. Brian Schatz - Young, telegenic, in a safe seat, strong on some key progressive issues... and from Hawaii so lacks national name rec and obviously not a swing state; Chris Murphy - ditto, although he has a marginally higher national profile due to being so out front on gun control, carries the "Northeastern liberal" cliche Wes Moore - may have a bright future but, really, just got here - not his time. Julian Castro - if someone decided they thought it was smart to choose a Hispanic VP candidate... I can't think of another obvious choice. There are others in office of course but they tend to have some counter argument against them. Corey Booker - Good talker, mystery why he didn't fare better in 2020, passionate but, well, you know...
New reporting is that 60% of that came from first time donors (for this cycle) ETA: Now over $100 million ActBlue Raises Over $100 Million In Just 24 Hours - Joe.My.God. (joemygod.com) Though I think the headline is wrong. Widely reported the "first 24 hours" was the 80-something figure and this should be "since the announcement" The linked CNBC article says $49.6 directly to the campaign and $67 to ActBlue on Sunday. Certainly it's a moving figure anyway.
I’m very certain from your posts and ..you know, human nature and having been alive in this world in the last 60 years, that you’re joking, however … I am absolutely certain there were many people in DC on Jan 6 2020 who were there for the tradition and ceremony. Only the ones who stormed the capitol and engaged in destruction should be charged. The Secret Service and Washington police should have drawn up and arranged for entirely different security system than was in place 3 and half years ago. You can’t just shoot people on the streets. But, something needs to be different.
I'm half joking. That said, the people who attacked police, broke windows, and otherwise caused mayhem and destruction did more than enough to warrant a deadly force response like Ashley Babbitt received.
And if it had been BLM folks that day, FF and UA would be screaming that the Capitol should be nuked.
Don't you want to know more? Future Forward, the largest super PAC in Democratic politics, announced it had secured $150 million in commitments over the same period from donors who were “previously stalled, uncertain or uncommitted,” a senior adviser said.
As believable as it is that Steve Doocy would come up with that kind of spin, I don't think Fox & Friends uses Impact in their chyrons. I'm also not sure they can spell "Kamala."
to be fair, Doocy has actually moved a bit towards normal lately. Kilmeade OTOH aspire to be the next Tucker but is devoid of charisma (Imagine being beated out by a schlub like Jesse Watters)
It's not. Faux News uses a variation of Futura for their lower thirds. That's something else. It's entirely believable, though.
