China definitely isn't perfect and they are still putting out a lot of pollution, but they're on a track where I have no doubt that is going to drop significantly over coming years given the strategies they've got in place. We have been looking for a new EV after the gearbox died on our ICE vehicle, and the top options in value for money were all Chinese. We just last week out down a deposit on a Chinese made EV that we love, and the reason there are so many good options is because back in the early 2000s China decided to push hard on electrification being the future and building up the industry around it.
100% agree here. Both China and India have a long way to go, but they also will have inertia pushing them forward. Meanwhile, the US might be inventing the technologies, but are dragging their feet kicking and screaming in implementation. I can't comment on what Europe is doing, but I imagine Russia has lit a big fire under the EU.

The last time El Niño was near this level was the 1870s. Weather related disasters killed an estimated 50 million people. The global population was around 1.3 billion. So, 1/26th of the population. Let me put that into perspective, during the peak of the AIDS crisis in the US, 1 out of 200 Americans was infected. If 1/26th of the world's population dies because of El Niño this time around, we're looking at over 300 million dead.
I'm not worried. Look who we have in charge here in the US. We're going to be... we're going to be fine.

Picked it up yesterday and went for a drive in the hills to test it out. It's far from a sporty model, but I've never driven EVs before and man the torque is insane, was able to accelerate uphill in a way I've never experienced before. It's now plugged in on the driveway, slurping up all those delicious homegrown electrons while the sun's out
Both of those countries have significantly less carbon emissions per capita than the United States. Especially India. Have you ever considered bothering to learn something before just regurgitating whatever knee-jerk talking points somebody fed you? You understand that the devices you're talking about have nothing to do with how the car is powered, right? They're in cars with internal combustion engines too. Or did you just pick up on a general "I'm supposed to hate electric cars" vibe and not bother to give the subject even the tiniest amount of rational thought? Actually thinking about something might lead to a conflict with your feeeeeeeeeelings, after all.
I'm living in fear driving around in my EV being constantly tracked, if only I had the untraceable anonymity of a Jeep, which famously is invisible to all modern surveillance.
To be clear, the amount of data that car manufacturers collect is a problem. But it's a new car thing, not an electric vehicle thing.
The question is whether any treaty or accord holds them to the same standard. Obviously, but the fact remains they are full of surveillance devices. Any I won't be buying any of them, either. I don't hate electric cars. I just refuse to be coerced into driving one. Just as I refuse to be surveilled. Electric cars are not unique in this, but it is another mark in the negative column.
One I directly control, the other I don't. If you weren't made of impotent noise, you might understand the distinction.
