Pelosi will get the same "Well, Bye" from me that I usually give when it comes to politicians, Dem or Republican, that stay in office so long God has lost their paperwork.
I really don't either. I wasn't a fan of his politics or his attitudes about some stuff, but I'm not going out of my way to piss on his memory. He's one of hundreds who have walked through DC doing dodgy stuff, and I only have so much piss in me.
It makes sense. Current conservative ‘thought’ has devolved into just whatever Trump says and reflexive opposition to ‘the libs’. They’ve been taught for decades now that Pelosi is the Great Satan so if they hate her that must mean The Libs love her. They are that dumb/binary. They really can’t break their minds out of their right wing information bubble and their childlike oppositional defiance disorder mentality.
That said I am probably one of the biggest Pelosi defenders here (@tafkats also seems to appreciate but he can speak for himself). I do think she was the most effective Dem House Leader/Speaker in the last half century. I think her ability to get bold legislation pushed through both under a Republican president (I will admit to being particularly partial to the Bush signed Post-9/11 GI Bill for personal reasons) and then in an extremely narrow majority is something to be admired. But am I going to be upset if some MAGAts make fun of their death? No of course not. I mean why would I care about a MAGAt’s opinion anyway? And why does admiring someone’s political skills and them using it to make our country better make me some acolyte? For the record I’m not a MAGAt. I am not a member of a cult of personality. Fuck, I’m an atheist, LOL.
I find a lot to appreciate about her. She pushed back when Rahm Emanuel wanted to scale back the Affordable Care Act, probably recognizing that another opportunity for meaningful health care reform wouldn't happen for years. And there's a tendency in our politics — including in the progressive movement, unfortunately — where, as soon as a woman manages to claw her way into a position of influence, she is immediately told that she's "too establishment" and should get out of the way. (Usually to make way for a man.) And ultimately, the difference between Nancy Pelosi and somebody like Lindsey Graham or Charlie Kirk is that she spent her life trying to help people ... while they spent their lives trying to hurt people. So, yeah, my reaction will be different when she goes. My assessment of somebody's death is based partly on what they did with their life. How could it not be?
Do we really have some Republicans trying to retcon Lindsey Graham? He was a life long bachelor because he was so devoted to being his sister’s guardian. Riiiiiight…
Here's a really good polemic (IMO, of course) on why so many of us who have long believed in the value of humanity have stopped being "civil" about the deaths of these monstrous people. I Am Not Sorry Lindsey Graham is Dead Source: https://assignedmedia.org/breaking-news/i-am-not-sorry/ It's also why when Trump's day comes, I have a bottle of beer ready just for it. It will be a good day, and humanity will be better for it.
Some people forget this is the same guy who said: “Give Israel what they need to fight the war they can’t afford to lose. This is Hiroshima and Nagasaki on steroids,” So, yeah, fuck him. I'm not sorry he died.
This polemic also resonates with my conflicted feelings about the death penalty. I oppose the death penalty because innocent people have been and will be killed through incompetence and/or malice. That said, I covered murder trials where guilt was not an issue for some of the most loathsome impersonators of human beings you can imagine. I will not mourn their deaths (I won't celebrate them either) while I continue to oppose the system that executed them. Nuance...it's a difficult concept.
I don’t know when he said it, but it was well over a decade ago that I found out about it. So, it certainly was well before recent events. I realize that Biden may not have felt it possible for him to say such a thing publicly while President, but his actions while President don’t seem to indicate that he feels that way.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestine:_Peace_Not_Apartheid?wprov=sfti1 Huh. I somehow completely missed this or forgot about it. It actually sounds like a good book. I’ve added it to my list, thanks!
One of the reasons I like it so much is because some of what she discusses mirrors my own thoughts about making harmony with the fact that on one hand I value and cherish life and want people to thrive, but at the same time there are human beings on this earth who died by some stupidity of their own hand, I would feel glad. I would hate that the life was lost, but only because that person chose to waste their life making the lives of other human beings miserable. It's why when I say I will be very happy when Donald Trump dies, I mean it. I truly do. When his time comes, I will consider it a boon to humanity and its future. We can only get better when he congeals and slides off his mortal coil. This. I'm against the death penalty as a whole. I do not want the state to ever have the power to simply end someone's life, especially considering who is currently in charge of the state. That said, if someone dies by their own actions, or at the hands of the innocent people they harmed the most, then I consider that a form of social justice, the universe correcting itself.
Trump says FBI is ‘wasting their time’ investigating Lindsey Graham’s death https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/do...nvestigating-lindsey-grahams-death-rcna587500 Oh boy, something is up
