Yes. Welcome to the world of law enforcement. Guess what will happen to your application if you are taking heart medicine or high blood pressure medicine? Prescription medicine like prozac? Yeah ok.......

And since most "medical marijuana" users use it for their eyes, to blunt the pain of cancer or other things they are probably not going to pass the physical to get hired.

And that is a stupid rule. Why does one NEED to live in the city? IT's crazy.

I don't understand the "too bad" part of it. If that's their policy, it's not "too bad," it's "We need to verify you're in compliance with the policy."

    And the policy is stupid.

Zombie is clearly an alcoholic that despises drugs and drug use. :ramen:

    No I wasn't dope.

If it's legal to do marijuana where you work then obviously you can't lose your job for it.

    I'm talking about illegal usage.

    :walz:

But seriously I think all drugs should be legalized. But cops, firefighters, doctors, and nurses, should still be barred from doing them.

Want to win the drug war? Legalize them all, make them cheap and drive the gangs out of business as their cash flow goes bye bye......

FBI Agents can't drink? Why? Because they're always on duty.

So says the dirty communist spy in Breach. I wonder if he said that IRL?

I'd like to see you shoot someone in order to maintain the peace or protect yourself in an urban area. Go ahead and try it.

... ad for the record, I didn't bring up race... apostle did in thre very title of the thread. I don't care what color a cop is... as long as he has a intrest in protecting the public and serving the community. If he is a part of that community, he has a better understanding of that.

That's one heck of an assumption. Folks I know of received their prescription for anxiety.

Even if you're right, you'd be excluding all anti-depressant/anxiety medicine users on a national level. Effectively precluding psychiatric care for every member of law enforcement.

Don't know about you but I don't want Police Officers off their meds.

Seriously though this is more of the same, by some twisted logic Police Officers should have fewer rights than everybody else.

What the fuck are you talking about?

    Maintain the peace? :wtf:

Protect myself in an urban area? Well yeah I would. Why wouldn't I protect myself?

I would not hesitate to attempt to neutralize someone if I was in fear of my life or limb. That's the law.

Clyde I don't know what planet you live on but on this one let me give you the bad news.....

If you are taking anti-depressants or anxiety medicine you will not get hired as a police officer. No where. No one is going to take on that liability of hiring you.

If you start taking it after you become a police officer you will probably find yourself at a desk for the rest of your career or you may get pushed out of the department.

Let me explain it again for you.....

If you are doing a drug which is illegal then you should lose your badge. Country wide as well.

If you are doing a drug and it is legal as a prescription then you're going to be ok.

What exactly does "protect the peace" mean? As for self defense...I guess I'm not getting your point. Why do you think most states have CCW laws? Do you think it's only for places outside of urban areas?

I didn't say you brought up race. I just pointed out that you turned the crux of the problem...that being we need to expand the pool of applicants...into a racial thing (in an assholish way, I might add)....which it isn't...or at least, it shouldn't be. Your post was a perfect example of the problem that Apostle was talking about in the first place....

Again, I'll ask you...what makes a "community"? Currently, the requirement is that city cops live within the county. Vote was on expanding the requirement to within 20 miles of the county...well within the Memphis metro area.

You seem to have considerable insight and I can appreciate this comments clear progression from your earlier post.

It is quite large of you to allow desk duty instead of losing your badge permanently in the entirety of the US.

Um, as you pointed out the legality of drugs varies by state. Any country wide punishments aren't worthy of consideration.

Clyde stop playing fucking word games you bastard.

Obviously I was talking about an officer doing illegal drugs. Prescription medicines are not illegal.

The only one that varies by state is marijuana. Pretty much everything else is on the federal level.

Even then I can all but guarantee you that if you use it in a state where it is illegal you will not be hired as a cop in another state. Even one where it is legal as a medicine because you will not have been taking it as a medicine in the state where you were.

It's like you've never heard of "Dry counties" not only is it state by state but it is county by county.

Unless of course alcohol doesn't count and alcoholism is embraced by law enforcement.

Again playing word games. Yes alcohol is a "drug" from a technical point of view. But when someone says the words drugs you are not thinking about alcohol.

And no alcoholism is not embraced by law enforcement. In fact it's a plague within the LEO community. Much more so then any drug problem.
