I got into grad school, moved back to Florida, married a woman who already had two young special needs kids, impregnated her, rented a house, had my car stolen before making one payment on it and learned the way what gap insurance is for (To the tune of $20,000). Had a second child, fought a protracted and vicious custody battle with my wife's ex after he essentially kidnapped my stepdaughters while they were visiting him in Tennessee (Another $40,000 down the drain). Spent literally years trying to buy a house large enough for six people, only to continually have the homes we wanted bought out from under us by "investors" paying cash to flip the homes. Dealt with my brother-in-law dying unexpectedly literally two days before he was supposed to move back to Florida. Bought a house, then immediately had a pipe to the garbage disposal burst and destroy our kitchen. Covid started, making what should have been a 4-week repair take about six months. Graduated from grad school with an MFA, published a novel, and went on a book tour. Got a job as a literature professor. And finally, finally things calmed down enough for me to have space to breathe and relax at a board that I was very happy to see still existed.
As for sticking around when conservatives ran this board, I was here when it was the Storm Show all the time. If he wasn't going to scare me off, no one would.
