I would phrase that problem as *imitating* Neanderthals. There's a world of difference between acting like a Neanderthal and acknowledging our Neanderthalic roots. For a start acknowledging it allows us to make allowances for it and actively strive to prevent it dominating our thinking. Imitating a beast and blaming it on our progenitors is usually just someone rationalizing bad behavior.

The people of NY elected a democratic socialist for a mayor, who I'm guessing publicly affirmed trans rights and perhaps even previewed this specific program. There are a whle bunch of democratic means to get him to change course or to punish him if people don't want that $15 million spent on this, up to and including voting him out of office. But considering he's managed from what I understand to present a balanced budget despite the shortfall the previous guy stuck him with, I don't think he has much to worry about. I'm sure if you wanted to, you could probably look up how much the NY budget has for mental health services, drug treatment services and for police services and you would find that both are higher budget spends.. I daresay that the problems of violent crime, mental illness and drug addiction have not been solved anywhere with a large enough populationn (i.e. 200k people or more). With that size population, there is inherently gooing to be a risk and almost certainty that those problems will manifest themselves to one extent or another, no matter how much money is spent or well the place is governed. I would also say that even if Problem A is not solved and it could be that doesn't mean that Problem B should not be addressed, even if Problem A is massively mre important than Problem B. In this specific context, there is a lot of money already (I presume) being spent on policing, mental health services and drug rehab services by the City of New York. Maybe the money could be spent better, maybe the $15 million spent on this pro-trans initiative would be better used on upping policing, mental health or drug treatment services. But probably trans NYers are a big enough population that devoting resources to them makes sense.
All true. However, what we do know of Neanderthals is that they were larger and stronger than Homo-Erectus. We (human scientists have discovered and shared knowledge) do know where we have found Neanderthal bones and Homo Erectus bones together, the Homo Erectus bones had evidence of damage due to breaks and cuts, whereas the Neanderthal bones just show evidence of damage due to old age or strength conditioning.
No idea if it is still the case or how universal it is/was but I can say that in Georgia from ‘97-‘01 there was no gender segregation in high school American Folkstyle Wrestling (often called collegiate wrestling to distinguish from Professional Wrestling [scripted athletic drama] but this is high school). It was weird at first but you quickly got over it or you lost. I was lucky to have a girl in my weight class at my school. So I got to get over my squeamishness in practice. You could always tell who in a tournament wasn’t used to wrestling girls.

First of all, SSRIs are not part of gender-affirming procedures. A person may be prescribed SSRIs and also be undergoing gender-affirming care, just like a person with an adderall prescription may also be getting their wisdom teeth taken out, but if anything, being able to receive gender-affirming care is likely to decrease a person's need for SSRIs. Second, with SSRIs being one of the most widely-prescribed classes of medication in the U.S., how is it that your belief that somebody "hopped up on SSRIs" is going to kill people somehow only came up when you needed an excuse to shit on trans people? You'd think there would be Prozac-linked stabbings all over the place. Third, do you even know the first thing about SSRIs? Here's what the Mayo Clinic lists as possible side effects: Upset stomach, vomiting or diarrhea. Sweating. Headache. Sleepiness or trouble sleeping. Dry mouth. Nervousness, anxiety or restlessness. Shakiness. Sexual problems, such as lessened sexual desire, trouble reaching orgasm or trouble getting and keeping an erection. Changes in appetite, leading to weight loss or weight gain. Not violence, random tendencies toward stabbiness, or homicidal urges. Fourth, because it is being medically controlled, transgender people typically have more stable and less extreme hormone levels than cisgender people. Trans women typically have estrogen levels between 100 and 200 pg/mL, while cis women's levels typically range from 30 to 400 pg/mL depending on their menstrual cycle. Trans men typically have testosterone levels between 400 and 550 ng/dL, while cis men can have levels as high as 1,000 ng/dL. Fifth, out of the approximately 11 million Americans taking testosterone, the vast majority are cisgender men. In particular, MAGA is in love with testosterone therapy, and the Trump administration is pushing to make it easier to get (as long as you're not trans). Where was your concern about "unnatural hormone levels" leading to spontaneous murder ... once again, until you needed an excuse to shit on trans people?
I'm aware of that. Whether pumping unstable people full of hormones is a good idea bears reflection, so why the SSRIs are prescribed us relevant. It comes from those inconvenient mass shootings perpetrated by t-people on head meds.

So confused. SSRIs are antidepressants. They inhibit the reuptake of serotonin to affect mood, not sex hormones.
