Played anything good lately? I'm hoping we can generate some discussion here to make this forum worthwhile again. Maybe I'm the only one going out of my way to play new games, but I hope not.
I've been playing a lot of Street Fighter 4. I even made a thread on it. I wonder what happened to that?
Review Roundup: Resident Evil 5 Resident Evil 5 Though my perspective may be slanted due to my fandom of the series, I really enjoyed playing through Resident Evil 5. The last numbered installment in the series (RE4, in case you couldn't figure that out) is definitely a big act to follow, considering how many innovations it brought to the series if not the genre, but RE5 proved itself despite some initial fears that it would disappoint. I'm not going to waste my breath going in depth, unless there is a call for it, but I will give a "good, bad and ugly" breakdown: The Good New setting, new tone: gone are the dark and foggy landscapes, welcome to the sunny savannah in Africa. Cooperative play adds a whole new level of excitement to the gameplay, giving a different twist to the established greatness. A better and easier organized inventory makes weapon swapping and healing a breeze. [-]Zombies[/-] "Majini" with chainsaws! The Bad The AI partner is luke-warm at best and an ammo hoarding bitch. The treasure/weapon upgrade system leads to replaying levels to exploit specific hoards of treasure in order to gain more impressive weapons. Laughably weak storyline (at least no president's daughter this time). Majini on motorcycles. The Ugly LEAVE ME SOME GODDAM HANDGUN AMMO SHEVA!!! Relatively short, completely linear storyline may put off some. Heading more into the action genre without adopting a control scheme befitting of it is the single biggest crime the creators perpetrate in this intallment. Giant cockroaches that can kill you in one hit, that can't be dodged and are tough as nails. Pass: If none of what I said appeals. Rent: If you think it's worth a shot. Buy: If, and only if, you're a fan of the series and have the spare time to waste replaying levels to find and shoot 30 obscure brightly colored emblems and want to take mercenaries mode online.
Review Roundup: Resident Evil 5 I have a bud that plays SFIV, personally I could never get into it. I'd throw down in SCIV with ya, if you ever bought it.
Sorry, I'm an old-school (not old-old-school, mind you) gamer, so unless you want to read about 15-year-old games . . . I do like to read about some of the new games, though. Like RE5, here. Never played any of the games, probably not my cup of tea, but it's fun to see what game designers are up to.
I've been playing a bit of that. My friend's playing it currently, but I wish they did a few things better. The online could be much better. Compare it to HD Remix, and it's nothing. Also, the move list screen is AWFUL. The default control scheme is ridiculous as well. Otherwise it's awesome!
The default controls have been that way since SFII on the SNES. Obviously you have two extra buttons on the PS3, but everything else is the same. I know what you mean though - it's a bit weird having the fierce and roundhouse at the top, and I always change mine. But eventually, you get used to doing moves with the top buttons. It's just a muscle memory thing that you just have to practice till your fingers get used to it and it feels "right".
Usually, in terms of an xbox controller, my punches are x, y, then left trigger and my kicks follow the same pattern. With this they didn't even include heavy punches/kicks and instead had the LP+MP+HP combo which drains some of your bar when you do a move with it. Also, I dislike the revenge bar. I wish either of the bars filled up faster. Whatever, the fighting is still pretty good.
