LOL, the Junta have deleted a USDA website post claiming it was perfectly possible that contingency funds could keep SNAP going during a shutdown, because they now want to blame the Dems for killing SNAP. https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/government-shutdodwn-snap-november_n_68ff9e16e4b0fb1b95157fd6
Here's more. (The Hill). Food stamp SNAP funding expiration set to impact 40 million Americans as shutdown hits one month mark https://share.google/splBOcE9qXbwfzrxN We do own this. Shutting down the government is playing into the GOP demands. We were already fucked. This is making it worse.
Surely you're not stupid and you can understand what I said. The Republicans would do this regardless, they fully intend to starve people and to make them sick. They are actively hurting innocent people and saying "look what you make me do," and there are people like you who will carry their water for them. You don't have to do that. You can learn about what is actually happening instead of just assuming both sides did something to deserve it and commenting as such. Shut the government down. Don't shut it down. The GOP was going to do this anyway. They have full control and the shutdown is theirs. It is on them. Be smarter. Be way smarter.
This. It is absolutely critical that people understand the current administration could easily fund SNAP if they honestly cared that millions will starve. They can fund this. They can open up the government. They can feed people and offer actual healthcare. Again, IF they valued human life. They don't. For all of my complains of the Democratic party, the Republican party is the party of death.
We're only worth the juice they squeeze out of us. Answer's right under your noses. Stop giving up your juice. When they invented fucking cubicles, when the "Office Space" bud was just starting to pop open, there should have been a universal strike that smashed the stock market to the fucking ground, and put ass-puckering terror in the hearts of Wall Street trash for 100 years. But, if I said that in the Dilbert days, I would have been scoffed at as a radical. But I'm fucking right.
Exactly right. Not to beat a horse a thousand times but, under Capitalism, our value is in what we can produce for the ownership class, for the people who rent out the market. It doesn't matter if what we generate is created or destroyed, as both are used to inflate the market's value, just that we cannot stop producing. If we stop producing, we stop having value. We live in a country where young adults are told to go donate plasma if they need money for their college books. Our country literally endorses selling your blood to pay for your education, and then finds ways to cut the benefits of education while increasing the costs of that education. The system is designed to squeeze anything and everything like a lemon until all that is left is a husk, and then that husk is broken down into profitable outcomes. There is this myth that Capitalism is efficient, but it isn't efficient. Capitalism only seeks to increase the profit margin. Sometimes you get a nice side benefit where it cuts away extra fat, but Capitalism, especially late stage Capitalism, will eventually start cutting into muscle. It will profit off of the death of the host body and simply move on to another host body as long as it can do so. It is the ideology of a cancer cell: unlimited growth in a finite system. That is what we are facing right now, the end results of this 250 year old economic philosophy, and all it's going to keep doing is extracting until everything is dead. The US is a prime example of what happens when it is given the reins, and I can't think of anyone more fitting to be the figurehead of Capitalism than Donald J. Trump.
Coincidentally, thousands (if not millions) of people are about to lose their SNAP benefits in a few days anyway, thanks to Republican cuts to the program. But the GOP doesn't want to talk about that. Schumer or Jeffries should, though.
Agreed. I talked to my MAGA neighbor today, and he is absolutely convinced that Donald Trump is trying to end the shutdown but those damn Democrats won't budge because they want to give free food stamps and healthcare to the illegals. I always listen because I like knowing how the MAGA folks are interpreting the world around us and he's always happy to talk about it. The thing is? He just got on SNAP himself. He is shooting himself in the foot and blaming some brown guy down the street. It is really something to witness in real-time.
If the Dems were smart they'd introduce a bill to fund SNAP at its current level, and do away with the upcoming cuts.
Something important to keep in mind if you're not in the US, but SNAP is woefully inadequate for most people and only covers a small percentage of the people who are food insecure. In Ohio, for example, to qualify you need to be at roughly 130% of the federal poverty income guidelines. The baseline statistical data for those guidelines hasn't been updated since the 1960s. Therefore, in Ohio, the average monthly SNAP benefit for one person is approximately $150. That's $150 per month. $5 a day. The average cost of food per person per day in the United States, on a strict budget, is $14. Keep in mind that's the average. Most people here in Ohio that I know who have SNAP are getting about $57 a month per person. That's $1.90 a day for food. In short, even with SNAP fully functional, there are still millions upon millions of people in the US going hungry every day. Sources: https://www.move.org/the-average-cost-of-food-in-the-us/ https://ohio.gov/residents/resources/food-assistance http://www.ers.usda.gov/data-produc...rting-the-essentials/food-prices-and-spending So you need to know that the cruelty is the point. This is the GOP putting the screws to people who have no resources to fight back against them, and they're blaming the Democrats for it.
Forgetting, of course, that more than $1 had to be taken from somebody else and filtered through a bureaucracy to produce the $1 "investment." The person who paid the (more than) $1 could've kept the money, "invested" it themselves, achieved all of the imagined economic benefit, and saved the part wasted on bureaucracy.
Democrats face moment of truth as shutdown coalition frays A major federal employee union broke ranks and forced some Democrats into a defensive crouch.
Remember, the Republicans control the House, the Senate, the Supreme Court, and the White House. They chose to allow the government to shutdown. They choose to disrupt military pay and SNAP. Anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is lying.
I get $292 a month. It does not last the whole month. I could make it last the whole month if I had to, but usually I don't have to. I needed SNAP back in January, which is why I reactivated it after not having it for years. Now, I don't need it, but I still qualify for it, and it does make things easier. Without it, I'm not going to starve, but I'll have to spend more money on food, and that means less money for other things. Like my car payment. The finance company is probably going to have to repossess it and sell it for significantly less than I owe if the shut down goes on much longer. Won't somebody please think of the poor finance companies?!
