I'm hearing that from both sides and its incredibly selfish. Its very easy to make that demand when its not your livelyhoods on the line. Plus polls show that strategy isn't working and its only going to get worse once the holidays begin. This needs to end. NOW.

PS: Anyone that wants to tell their side to "hold the line" needs to volunteer to work for free a whole month. Otherwise, shut up.

Federal expenditures are curtailed. This affects the whole country as money for federal programs in each state is cut.

It directly affects federal agencies and the military.

Trump is already directing money where he wants, as he welds executive power over federal agencies and military. It does give him more power by allowing him to shutter agencies he doesn't like. Also he can steer funds to his loyalists at all levels.

So yeah, in the short term it strengthens Trump. He has no motivation to end it.

This could weaken him in the next election as voters flip to the democratic ticket, but that's a year out. No guarantees and the damage will have been done.

The Michigan Free Shit for Poor People website tells me I'll be getting about half of the SNAP I usually get on November 8th. So, looks like I won't be starving to death after all.

I'm going to have a table in the back of our booth with bags of food (spaghetti, macaroni, canned tuna, sauce, things like that) with a sign in English and Spanish that essentially reads if you need one take one. They're going to be in the same bags we put people's purchases in so you can just walk in, take one, and walk out and no one can tell you were getting the food. There's no shame in it at all, but some people are really self-aware and are embarrassed even though they have every right to take one, so I'm hoping I can help feed at least a few families every weekend until this is resolved. I hate this so much.

Food banks won't give you Doritos and Mountain Dew, either, so they are not the preferred option for "starving" people rocking four bills.
