It's long, but good. But then again, it can distill down to this one paragraph:

    http://www.theguardian.com/music/2013/oct/03/sinead-o-connor-open-letter-miley-cyrus?CMP=twt_gu

I know, Guardian is shit, Sinead's a man-hating dyke, blah blah, something, something, red room, #benghazzi

Sinead O'Connor is an amazing singer, and Miley Cyrus will do well if she's ever half as good. Unfortunately Sinead is also completely fucking nuts.

Oh, look. An irrelevant former star chiding an irrelevant current star. Too bad no one was there for baldy when she tore up that picture of Emperor Palpatine on SNL back in the day.

    Just a few random thoughts...

    1. At this point, I imagine Sinead O'Connor's music will stand the test of time much better than Miley Cyrus's will. I think it much more likely that people in 50 years will know "Nothing Compares 2 U" than "Party in the U.S.A."

    2. That said, Miley Cyrus is not completely without talent. I listened to "Wrecking Ball" recently and found that I sorta enjoyed it.

    3. I wasn't particularly shocked by Miley's antics at the VMA show, but--regardless of whether you think Sinead's characterization of the industry is correct--one thing is pretty certain: young women who rely on sex appeal to push their music careers (usually) have a very limited shelf life. Once familiar with one nymphet, we're ready to move on to the next.

This reads as "From one attention whore to another". God forbid she make money off her sex appeal. Maybe she should shave her head and rip up a picture of the Pope instead.

True. But then again most 'artists'...or should I say 'modern artists' are nothing but manufactured fluff anyways. The real artists, like say, Lorde, disappears in the noise that these fluffers generate.

Im guessing Miley must attempt to write some of her songs, I don't know for sure but Im basing it on the top drawer lyrical crafting in her 'we can't stop' song. I heard it again this morning and the chorus goes....

    "la da de da de
    we like to parteee
    dancin with miley
    doin whatever we wannnnt"

    Thats advanced stuff right there.

As for Miley herself, she's a bit off the rails but still............ :fun:

    Oh, yeah. Puts lyrics like,

"First time I saw you standin' in the street
You were so cool you could've put out Vietnam..."

    to shame. To shame.

Exactly, maybe you should write some pop songs. Must be an easy market.

She's a great singer, not a great song writer.
I encourage you and others to check out some of her other work.

I actually looked up the the song that those abysmal lyrics belong to, and unless someone altered it somehow -- and it didn't sound as though it had been altered -- she's not much of a singer, either. She sounds like one of the Chipmunks, actually.

Lots of pop music is like junk feed. Basic, awful stuff, but there is a lot of skill that goes into making it so damn addictive and catchy.

    Seems Miley no likey.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-24395755

As for O'Conner in general, it's clear from recent events in her life that she struggles with depression and mental health issues (her bizarre recent marriage being a good indicator) so I'm not surprised by her Guardian rant. More surprised the paper let her do it.

ummm... you do recall some of sinead's lyrics and antics?

about the only real difference between them at age 20 is that Miley hasn't had a kid yet.

 way to demonstrate you're the crazy one! Oh well, she still made a valid point. Chup, she wasn't writing in the Guardian, that was her personal blog, which they republished.
