    Reading is fundamental.

At some point in time $1000 came from Chick-Fil-A to the Family Research Council. This was between 2003 and 2008, as the investigations into their donations came from tax records at that time.

The FRC in 2012 spent $25K lobbying on the bill, because the FRC opposed language that 'homosexuality was universally recognized right.' Personally I'm fine with it, and I like most LGBT groups far more than I like the FRC, but they didn't support death camps for gays. That's just a flat out lie.

And Chick-Fil-A had nothing to do with that at all. Also clearly a lie.

They've given a lot more money to various Christian charities. Several of those charities support 'traditional family values.'

Not my favorite group of people, but not the KKK or the Aryan Brotherhood either.

So feel free to be pissed off at CFA all you want, that's your call.

But I'm not, and I don't see any pressing reason why I should be.

Was referring to the Family Research Council and why they deserve the hate group label, not Chick-Fil-A.

    small point of order:

While I also am reluctant to cite the SPLC, there reasoning is not JUST being opposed to same-sex marriage - a lot of groups take that position and are not listed. The reason FRC and AFA, among others, makes the cut is that they support their position with false and defamatory claims.

    http://www.splcenter.org/get-inform...browse-all-issues/2010/winter/the-hard-liners

With that said, I've been inclined all along to give the decision makers at WinShare and Chick-fil-a the benefit of the doubt that they didn't really know what they were dealing with and the kerfuffle was necessary to write that info large for them.

It was always, to me, about what they would do once they knew. Most of the effects of being a "Christian company" - insofar as we can see from the outside - are quite positive as you mentioned.

Based on those criteria, which constitute spreading misinformation, we need to put both political parties and nearly every business in America on the SPLC's hate list.

I don't support those groups or those statements, but the fact they fib to promote their agenda is a bit dubious to make a 'hate' group claim.

If that's all it took, I'd have to add SPLC to the list.

FRC CLAIMS they were not lobbying against the resolution in whole - we only have their word for that and it's not the sort of thing anyone would wear proudly.

We do know that Scott lively, one of the big wheels in the fight in Massachusetts was actually over their IN Uganda working for the bill. These folks all network together.

FRC just tries to have a bit more polished image.

But again, I doubt Chick-fil-a knew about it.

one last point on the SPLC - i don't take their word for it that anyone is a hate group, but i take them as a jumping off point to look more closely.

Often times i can'ty go so far as to say that a whole group is a "hate group" but do take note that they do, or support, or allow hatefulness.

Take, for instance, AFA;/AFR. In my view, as long as they continue to employ Brian Fischer, they have no right to complain if they are called a hate group because that man is a certified wacko who'd feel quite comfortable breaking bread with Phelps.

Whatever else good they might be doing, that's a stain that can't be overlooked. With most of the right-wing Christian groups there (on the list) there is something similar. The organization as a whole in many cases does a lot of good things, but there is some act, or person, or neglected bit of responsibility - which stains them and makes it difficult for me to feel they have been wronged.

So basically a Chicago alderman lied (big surprise) and nothing has changed? But what about their bottom line hurting and all that? Still waiting for that evidence..

The Alderman can not deny Chick Fl A a license to build a restaurant in Chicago because of the political beliefs of the owners..now if it can be proven that CFA refuses to hire or serve Gay or Transgendered persons then yes..but CFA doesn't do that and if the Alderman tries that then they could sue and win...but they didn't want to fool with that so they threw him a bone to help him save face..he should of just took it and shut up and the whole thing would have died down.

If you think corporate sales figures are calculated by the day, you might as well pull a random number out of your own ass.

If you really wanted to know Chick-fil-A's revenues for the quarter, you'd consult their corporate site.

But that might require intelligence and effort, neither of which are your strong suit.

ETA: The company is not publicly traded (see, I did your homework for you), so there's no way of determining the true numbers. So go ahead and make something up. That is one of your strong suits.

They're as bad as the mob. They've just branded themselves as a monitoring group and people bought the lie. Refuse to "donate" to the make Morris Dees even more rich initiative or you get put on the list.

No one will touch them at the State or Federal level. It'd look really bad trying to take down a self-proclaimed civil rights organization.
