Nah, that ain't it. If she'd said "it was a pun in a pants commercial, it's not that deep" then I'd believe she was trying to avoid politics. This stone faced refusal to confirm or deny what some people on both sides saw as a racist dog whistle is absolutely a strategy to appeal to the racist gooners in her fan base. What she doesn't seem to realize is that those particular fans of hers aren't likely to support her attempts at doing art films.
She's very young. I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt and believe she was simply saying what her publicist / agent / handlers told her to say in response to that question. Replying with "It's just a pun" would bring her down on a particular side. And I can absolutely believe her people want to keep her away from any side on this.
Also, her youth makes any drooling over her feel very wrong to me. She's literally a couple of years older than my eldest daughter. Just makes me feel icky to think about.
She's 28. (But the nude shots of her you see everywhere are from when she was 21 and 23, respectively.) "It's just a pun" or "there was no deeper meaning I was aware of" doesn't put her on a side. The great thing about dog whistles is that they're made to be denied publicly, so her disavowing any knowledge of it wouldn't convince the actual racists she's not still on their side. And yet she went a step further.
I gave her the benefit of the doubt back in August. Her recent statements have led me to reconsider that position. Full disclosure: American Eagle cargo pants are so damn comfortable, they're the only pants I've bought since last year.
I'm sure she can. Navigating public relations disasters in an incredibly hostile climate? Now that's hard. Edit: Also, I think we were all pretty stupid in a lot of ways when we were 28. My daughter's on her way to a doctorate, but that doesn't mean I'd expect her to be media-savvy enough to properly handle a question like that.
bruh... at 56 I'm still open to being kinda stupid at times. Better at justifying it, mabe, but... Still, yeah. Slobbering over 20somethings I'd probably punch myself in the face. Hell, even hooking up with 30somethings and I feel a little dirty old mannish. These days, appropriate "young chicks" are at least 40
with todays media it does not matter what you say or how you say it. they will make it WHAT they want it to mean and HOW they want it to sound
not only that she seems to be litterally surrounded by them!!!!! it really is too bad she is 28 FF no longer has as much fun staring at them now that she has passed the teenage years..;;sigh
I don't know you. I am sure you have no reason to be dishonest on the subject, I just find it hard to believe. I am super jaded tho. Even space turkey's post surprises me.
It's become more of an issue for me as my daughter's have approached that age, and as I've been teaching more. I can acknowledge if someone is attractive, yes, but anything beyond that is not appealing to me. Maybe it's the obvious difference in age. Maybe it's the gap in lived experiences. Whatever the case, I couldn't imagine myself bent intimate in any way with someone like Sydney Sweeney.
Thats fair. I live and work in a seasonal touristy town. Each summer I watch even the nicest older guys fawn over the young seasonal workers, probably some would say I am jealous, I've been there done that. I've had an attraction to older men, but now when I see them latch on to someone in thier early 20's it makes me sick and I see it in a different light. And It doesn't help that my neighbor friend has a 15 year old daughter and I've watched what she has gone through this summer.
Earn that $$$ girl. If you got it, flaunt it The amount of women I've seen on social media that are complaining about this and then someone pulls up a pic of them bent over in a bikini doing some "modelling" is pretty funny
The ad does reek of desperation by all involved, but apparently she's a shareholder/partner in the company. Makes perfect sense she'd use all of her "skills" to help make it successful.
Just to be clear: I'm only pointing out Sweeney's utter hypocrisy. She can flaunt her tatas all she wants. I'm not complaining.
So...she's thrown in the towel on being female M. Night Shyamalan, and is just gonna be a Kardashian now. Huh. Okay.
Good for her for investing in what will ultimately be ruled an illegal gambling operation. Again, don't claim that you're not a dumb blonde with big tits when you're clearly a dumb blonde with big tits. Just own it, fer crissakes.
Hey, even Ron Jeremy dreamed of becoming a mainstream actor and comedian and not just the guy with the massive hog. Everyone dreams of something, even if they aren't going to make it.
I've seen more women athletes complaining about the perception this creates of women in sports. And one might say "Yeah, well, Sweeney isn't an athlete", and no, she isn't. But she did play one in a very serious artsy film. That bombed. And the fact that this ad looks like something you'd see her character do in the third season of Euphoria shouldn't be overlooked either. So the optics are...not great. As one Washington Post columnist put it, she's absolutely smart to cash in on her sex appeal... while gravity permits. How's Kate Upton doing these days, by the way?
