The concept of individual merit is not negated by some individuals being treated unfairly. The remedy to that is to assess each situation on its individual merits, not blanketing everything with "institutional bias" label and handing people excuses for their failings.

Sydney Sweeney's brand is her "natural" beauty and huge tits, but you can't just say that in an ad. "This girl has natural beauty and huge tits, please buy our products" doesn't work. "This girl has great genes" is a less crass way of saying it, and the genes/jeans pun makes it all the better. Could it be a racist conspiracy? Sure. But American Eagle was releasing ads featuring plus-size women of colour a few years ago. Was that a woke conspiracy? Or are they just throwing everything at the wall to get people to look, and their only motive is getting views and making money?

In that never happened scenario of course. But that isn't the reason that race hustlers are jumping on to this. It's race hustling when you take a clever turn of phrase like "Great Jeans/ Great Genes" and blow it up into "Oh, this is a secret code for eugenics." I think it's more disappointing that we have legitimate reasons to think companies would be doing this. Is that the case here? No, probably not. But there is at least a reason to ask. And that's pretty fucked up.

It's funny, all the people I've seen pointing out the unfortunate implications of the ad seems to be a bunch of nobodies on social media. The only person of note talking about this? Donald Trump, who had the White House issue a statement in defense of it. The White House, vigorously defending an advertisement for jeans. So who's the actual race hustler?
