Well, this first came across my radar from Alpha, who is a person of note in my book. But to the extent I've looked at this at all, most of the commentators on it seem to either be comedians or right-wing politicians. Trump, Don Trump Jr. Vance, Cruz have all commented on it. The whole thing can be boiled down to this. A handful of liberals: "Hey, American Eagle, at a time when literal Nazis are running rampant and a white nationalist who espouses eugenics is in the White House as deputy chief of staff, running a campaign where you have a blonde-haired, blue-eyed model talk about how she has great genetics is pretty tone-deaf." The Very Outraged Right: "OH MY GOD THEY SEE NAZIS EVERYWHERE! THEY HATE BEAUTIFUL WOMEN! ARGLE BARGLE SOMETHING SOMETHING PURPLE HAIR TITTIES TITTIES TITTIES!"
Oh, and I think Sydney Sweeney is gorgeous. But this is very simple. A company did something tone-deaf, a handful of people said "dude, that's not a good look," and the right-wing outrage machine did what they do ... which is lie, distort, exaggerate, lie, distort, exaggerate, lie, lie, lie, and lie some more.
Well, they can't very well be focusing their outrage at Trump and the Ghislaine Maxwell shit, so this jean commercial will have to do.

There's far more videos from across the spectrum talking about it. Every single one of them is about the far left losing their shit over a harmless ad. Colbert made a simple joke about it and he got hammered online for it. You guys can keep pretending that its just a handful of lefties, but reality says different. And of course the right is going to make an equally big deal about it because it's another shiny example of how batshit nutty the far left has become.
I'm telling you, most of us don't really care. Sure, there's always going to be terminally online people who can't wait to use it to generate clicks and views on their Substack or Youtube platforms, but really, most of us had no idea it was even a thing until we saw it on conservative media.

This. There's no media like outrage media, so of course news outlets will run with it, but individual leftists are a drop in the bucket compared to the conservatives reacting to it. Remember how they tried to tell us kids were shitting in litter boxes in classrooms and we had a grand old time laughing about it? That's kind of the situation here. No one on the left is genuinely upset or offended. It is, at best, a mild curiosity about wording and time and placement. I wish that were true but I’ve heard (from someone in them who considers themselves on the left) of multiple leftist-filled Discords that they are in fact quite offended by the ad, calling American Eagle a bunch of Nazi-enablers, calling Sweeney “Sydney Braun”, etc. And those are the consensus views. There are worse individual ones. Echo chambers are a hell of a drug.

Both of these points are valid, IMO. Like I said before, you're always going to have terminally online people who have to gin up something about anything. I don't use Discord, I mostly stick to Bluesky, Wordforge, and a few other tiny places, but no one there was really talking about it beyond the headscratcher of why conservatives seemed so livid.
