I have to respond again to the original post because when I first saw the add on the Daily Show and I heard Sydney Sweeney say, "My jeans/genes are blue" I thought she meant "Democrat" and I was like, "Oh yeah, lots of people are going to be mad about that" And then I watched the rest of the bit on the daily show and saw that people were mad for other reasons-OR that there was a "Percieved Mad". Because serisouly I had not heard about it before then. The whole thing is so stupid. And now someone told Dump that she is a registered Republican and he was like "OH I like the ad now!" and he was so genuinely happy. Like the happiest I have seen him-ever.

I think it is certainly possible to find examples of people taking just about any position online. There's a whole spectrum of people, some of whom might be crazy, some of whom might be upset, some of whom are trolling etc. What I have not yet seen much or any of is anybody who can reasonably be said to be representative of the left taking the level of offense to this ad as there are prominent people on the right complaining about the left supposedly being upset about the ad. Are there left social media folks with high levels of followers, people like AOC or so forth, genuinely accusing American Eagle or Sweeney of being or propping up Nazis?
Late to this party, but I found receipts of her registering as a Republican in June after moving to Florida. Which left leaning people do in red controlled states to make sure the least shitty candidates get the nomination, but combined with her throwing her mother a MAGA themed party is WAAAAAAAAAAAY more than a little sus. Not every creative is a liberal, but there's "old school quiet Republican" stuff like Kelsey Grammar and there's the enabling of the MAGA cult. Guess those weirdos claiming her last year for her boobs clocked her after all.
Agreedr. There are plenty of conservatives in Hollywood that don't bother me at all. Arnold is among them because even though I don't agree with his political positions very often, he comes by them honestly, and he sees Trump as anathema to what he believes is genuine conservative values. He's honestly more of a Theodore Roosevelt Republican, which isn't great, but you can be far worse. If Sweeney's a MAGA or at least MAGA adjacent, that certainly sucks some serious donkey balls, but at the end of the day it's her choice. Still, we're free to call her out on it. All of that said, The White House is running with the "controversy" of course, and it honestly feels pretty manufactured. Americans love their celebrities, and when you have a celebrity who is conventionally beautiful and has political opinions, of course she's going to become a lightning rod for really shitty takes, and the Trump administration has the shittiest takes.
