I'd be happy to migrate to Canada (although Australia and/or New Zealand would be next on the list), but I'm at least 20 years too old and don't have any special skills that would increase my score on the immigration ratings for any of those countries. Really sucks, because the ultimate statement of voting with my feet isn't available. Rats.

Not sure how much of this is just online snark for shits and giggles but, ya know, there's not a massive gap between that position and the Republican view of immigration. Writ large, in-migration is pretty much always a net positive for the economy and culture of the receiving country. Canada has nothing to spare so much as empty land and - unless it happened all at once - y'all would get nothing but benefit from ex-pat Americans doubling your population, or more. Particularly since none of them would be MAGA (albeit, increasing the % of MAGA down here would be a shitty outcome)

I don't even think you even need to get into the refugee question. Simple economics filters it out for you because a lot of the, say, less desirable Americans (speaking strictly of economic status) couldn't afford to make the move so you're pretty much by definition getting the folks you'd select for. All y'all really need to do is manage the RATE of migration so as not to overwhelm your infrastructure.

Not at all! The point is that migration is a big financial challenge. Myself, for example, apart from a massive aversion to the cold, I'm like the ideal American who'd prefer to live under the laws of Canada....but the logistical demands simply can't be overcome. It might as well cost ten million as far as my ability to afford such a move. I'm saying THAT reality would tend to naturally filter out lower income folks from overrunning your ability to cope.

Similarly, MAGA chuds would be horrified at the idea of moving to your communist hellhole and what you're left with is pre-filtered to both not be radicals and not be low income.

You should keep in mind that the reason we're in this shape is that a third of us are MAGA, a third of us are strictly anti-fascists, and another third can't be bothered to give a fuck when they could, if they did, swing enough influence to fix all our busted shit. The first group ain't interested in coming, the third group can't be bothered to even fucking vote, let alone move, and what your left with ain't the cohort that's fucking everything up. You have more MAGA adjacent chuds out in Alberta than you'd reap excessively leftist Americans.

But to circle back, I'm quite possibly falling into the trap of arguing with snark rather than an actual reasoned position. It's not at all rational to suppose that there's no potential American migration that would work as a net positive to Canada across the board. Hell, if you just got all the folks that lost their government/adjacent jobs at places like NIH, NOAA, NASA, CDC etc in the last year it would be a windfall.

Near as I can tell, the first time I mentioned Leslie Wexner here, dates back to 2014. You might recall that I've mentioned that Wexner destroyed my hometown, and that it was only fairly recently that I found out there was a connection between Wexner and Epstein. In 1986, I was a senior in high school, and as part of the requirements in my government class, I had to attend county commission meetings. In one of those meetings, there was something that the commissioners stated dealing with zoning laws that had to be done in private. This struck me as a bit odd, but I'm a 17-year-old kid, WTF do I know? Anyway, it turns out that those commissioners were lying and doing the discussion with zoning laws in private was a violation of things like the open records laws.

Now, imagine that I had not only known that what the commissioners were doing was illegal, but that I'd been able to convince somebody important (say a reporter for the Columbus Dispatch, which was the only newspaper in the area) of what I'd seen and that it was illegal. Odds are, if they'd have done an investigation, they'd likely only found out that there'd been a violation of open records laws, which would have probably only resulted in the commissioners getting a slap on the wrist. Maybe they would have uncovered that the commissioners had been bribed, and that it was Wexner behind it. Lots of folks in that area would have bought that. But the idea that Wexner was connected to a guy who was running a pedophile ring (which he was)? Nobody would have bought that shit, let alone have supported an investigation to get to that point.

None of this is to say that the person making the claims is correctly recounting what happened. Just the fact that some of the stuff they're talking about has enough facts behind it to raise some red flags. Maybe the supposed suicide is connected to Epstein, maybe it's tied to a cop who got a woman pregnant who didn't want to get an abortion, so he killed her. Surely that's worth looking at by someone outside the area, who is less likely to cover up things done by a local cop?

Don't know if you've seen this or not but there's a guy claiming he was sexually abused by Trump. Is it true? Based on some of things that he's claimed, I'd be willing to bet that he's lying, but can I unequivocally rule all of it out? Nope. Are you willing to say that his testimony being false means we shouldn't investigate Trump for being a kid diddler? I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that you agree that there's enough evidence about Epstein being connected to politically powerful figures, it doesn't matter if one person lies about the subject there's enough information out there to warrant a serious investigation.

What's the context of that image? So ... while I have no problem believing that that's a tip that was received, I'd be cautious about drawing too many conclusions. A public tip email or phone line, if that's where it came from, is pretty susceptible to pranking, and nothing there indicates that the tip came from somebody saying "I was one of the girls, and I got fingered by these guys prior to being auctioned off."
