When will someone realize this stuff is out of control. To be accused is to be guilty. Why bother with wasteful things like proof and trials. Maybe we need a committee for public safety like back in the good old days of Robespierre.

Each of those problems are problematic for different reasons.

In the first magical witches don't exist so the false accusations were a problem because they accepted faulty evidence.

In the second communists actually exist but not in the numbers, nor in the sinister world power they claimed they did. Communism is not in itself inherently evil.

In the third we actually do have a huge problem with sex offenders and also in how our laws deal with them and how we identify them. We do need to stop this and change how society thinks, but there are innocent people and we have to make sure they are not tossed in with the guilty.

But they all started with assumed guilt at some point in our history and that is what makes them the same. Punish the guilty, sure, but trial in the press is not justice any more than the witch trials.

Even there things are not the same. The press cannot take your land, money, freedom, and crush you with giant rocks. The witch trials were bad because we killed and tortured people. Yes, it sucks to have damage to your reputation, but that part of the Salem witch trials was not the tragic part. Yes, the families had their reputation ruined, but they were brutally executed and had their property and freedom taken based on legal trials.

The thing with sex offenders is that the difficulties for women to report sexual assaults including the hoops they have to jump through and the humiliation it frequently involves strongly encourages many people to "cut them some slack" and often give their allegations more weight than they should be given based on actual evidence.

I'm a firm believer in innocent until proven guilty, but at the same time women are at a disadvantage, and have been for centuries, when speaking up against powerful men. I don't automatically assume guilt when these accusations come out, but I do accept that it is possible. When Bill Cosby was accused, I was shocked, but willing to listen. When it ended up being 50 women, and that there was corroborating evidence, and that Cosby's lawyer tried to have a previous court hearing's transcripts blocked, then that put me in the "he did something" camp, and since these women were accusing him of drugging and raping them, that something was going to be awful.

I don't think one bad thing defines a person. We all do things we regret later, or did things we now realize were stupid, but when you have multiple people over multiple years coming forward and making these claims, then that is worth investigation.

It happens when you actually read books, you learn basic things. You should try it for once in your life.

Last I checked, there's no law against storing classified government docs on a personal server. Also no law against destroying said info. We're both tech guys, you of all people should know you can achieve a much more secure setup by hiring web developers to install hardware at home than you'll ever get with sysadmins at a dedicated facility. If there was an appearance of malfeasance, they could just subpoena the hardware and inspect the server logs.

I lived in Alabama for a time and Roy Moore was a known problem way back then. The locals miles away from his local area knew about this guy. This was long before he lost his job the first time. This is not some recent rumor that got started up because this dude is running for Senate. I knew who this dude was long before he became national news because he was too creepy for many of the farm people in Alabama. However, they will vote for him being in Washington fighting against the evil Hillary libruls because they know he is a downright nasty hoss who will call them names and be a thorn in their side. Plus he will be there a lot more and not locally raping little girls and getting away with it.
