My dad is hiking the AT, and I thought maybe some of you would be interested in reading his trail journals. They'll likely be sparse because he'll be on the trail days at a time before seeing a town to stop in and even less likely, find a computer he can use.

I'm doing what? Ah yes I am planning to hike from Georgia to Maine
along the Appalachian Trail other wise known as the AT. Back when I was a little guy my dad would take me in the 18 wheeler up north to deliver wood chips to a paper mill. While driving through the white mountains we would pass a sign indicating the road crossing of the Appalachian Trail. I don't remember actually ever asking about it but always wondered about that trail. As the years passed I learned more and more, So it has been in the back of mind for along time. Back in 2005 my daughter and I spent two weeks backpacking in the white mountains in August. We spent some time on sections of the AT,unexpectedly we met some thru hikers along the way and spent some time with these seasoned hikers and listened to their stories of their adventure to make it all the way to NH. It was after this when I was sitting at home a day or two later and said to myself you have got to do this. Well here I am in 2008 About ready to head down to Georgia, a dream adventure coming true!!!

Kudos to your dad. Hiking a portion of the AT is something that we have considered doing. The logistics alone fascinate me.
