There are a shit ton of protests going on right now. Keep in mind that our media is majority owned by the very billionaires who are in with Trump on this shit, so it falls to more independent media to get the word out, and they just don't have the same reach.
Where are all those 2nd amendment guys who used to be fantasizing about how they needed their guns in case some tyrant proclaimed himself king? Ok, I‘m joking, I know they were never serious. But still… i‘m suprised serious people aren’t trying to do something or at least be loud about this now.
I‘ve read more about protests in Turkey in the last five days than protests in the US in the last five weeks
There have been thousands of protests, and there are more protests planned: https://www.wfsb.com/2025/04/04/pro...-cuts-federal-funding-planned-across-country/ Keep in mind, too, that many people are likely finding different ways to protest. For example, I'm not going to go to an actual protest because of my (1) disabilities, and (2) I could likely die in a holding cell because I have several chronic diseases which require maintenance medication that I'd likely be denied, and our police have a long history of doing exactly this. You don't tend to get shot in Germany if you protest. In the US, getting shot might end up being the best outcome. Our police are very well armed and are dedicated to hurting as many people as possible.
Yeah i dont mean to discourage you or judge you (not you as an individual in any case)… i‘m just wondering about the reasons
The truth is that for all their talk about fascism and dictatorship the Americans opposed to Trump seem to not actually believe that, have lives that are still too comfortable to risk upending things more by really standing up, or still think they can turn things around through democratic means.
Thats the thing though, isnt it? People never want to believe it really is serious. Never did. Giving up your comfortable life to either emigrate or fight for it, thats not something that happens easily (or ever has happened easily historically)… but i‘m not really talking about this level… more like… just loudly making it heard that you won’t stand for this
US presidential elections are such a massive thing that they tend to drain the speaking out loudly energy for a while, especially because their half baked democracy means they spend months yelling at each other then elect someone to essentially be an 18th century monarch for 4 years.
Oh, the cops are absolutely going to have a field day. The Trump administration already stated that protesting at a Tesla dealership is terrorism. They will bring the militarized police to bear.
Police in the US have slowly become an occupying army over the last several decades. We may have the right to free speech and assembly on paper, but over the last 5-10 years, peaceful protests that go against the establishment have been shut down violently by police. Additionally, with Trump and MAGA wanting to end birthright citizenship, I'm afraid of speaking out for fear of me or my family being snatched off the street by masked ICE agents, denied due process, and sent to that prison in El Salvador never to be seen again. That, and egg prices might come down any day now. Edit: and as @Coloratura points out, certain forms or targets of protest can now be declared terrorism at the stroke of a Sharpie.
Also media is not covering it. I seem to find the best coverage of protests on tik Tok But I agree, it still isn't enough. Many POC are avoiding tomorrow for fear of benefits ng detained by ICE, it's fucked up.
Here's an example of what I was talking about. Find the story about the protests and where it's located.
We're being audited because even though I'm disabled, and have sent them proof that I am disabled from my doctor, they're still not convinced. We went through a tax agency, and when the audit came through they said "well now you have to pay us the full amount before we can resolve the audit because the audit protection doesn't go into effect until we get paid from the refund." Worry free guarantee, my ass. Also, the audit itself is taking about 3 times as long because there aren't enough agents anymore to process them. So we're certainly getting fucked, I wonder how many other people will hit this same wall?
