Measles was eradicated in the US 25 years ago. It sounds like these people were probably stupid enough to not get vaccinated, or had no choice in the matter but carry the genes of parents stupid enough to not get their child vaccinated.

If I'm keeping it a buck, while MAGAs have certainly helped normalize anti vax shots, our culture has been primed for this from the day Oprah gave Jenny McCarthy the best mouthpiece Andrew Wakefield could've ever gotten to spread that crap about MMR shots causing autism.

You'll recall how most of the breakouts before 2020 of measles and whooping cough and even polio happened in wealthy and otherwise well educated area that aren't particularly religious like Seattle and Orange County (the one in Washington Heights within the Orthodox Jewish community in 2019 being a notable exception).

People in the GenX subreddit have gone into the doctor and been tested only to find out their vaccine they got as a kid is effectively dead. If you were born mid 70s or before, you may not be protected unless you got a booster at some point. Don't assume you have immunity.

As I understand it, vaccines from 1962-67 became completely ineffective. 1968-1989 depends on the exact vaccine you got, and >1990 you’re fine. I got my first dose before 1990 and my last dose after so my doctor has ordered my measles antibody titers checked.
