My current audiobook in production is "ISIS and the Yazidis: How American Action Stopped a Genocide in Iraq" by Ben Wood. The Yazidis are a somewhat mysterious branch of the Kurdish family tree. They are monotheistic, but no Abrahamic and are a "closed society" meaning anyone who marries outsiders is cast out. The Muslims consider them "Devil Worshipers" because of the misinterpretation of their religion. Much of it takes place in Syria. When it comes to being historically shat upon, the Kurds are right up there with the Jews and Armenians, but the Yazidis have been especially targeted. It's a sad, sorry tale in many places, but also one of hope when flashes of humanity at its best pop up at unexpected times.
