Somehow, for some reason, I can't download software updates for Ad-Aware at my apartment. :calli:

I haven't run into anything else I can't download, and IIRC it hasn't worked running with the router on default settings OR configured for security. And everything works fine when I travel (and I'm on a different WiFi). But when I try to connect up from home, it connects and then aborts 5% of the way into the download process.

Could be that the connection to the update server is timing out. Your home connection reasonably fast?

The other thing is, when you say traveling, do you mean traveling outside of Hawaii, or within Hawaii? There might be some oddness regarding that state.

It sounds like there's something wrong with your computer. :mystery:

    Do you have Comcast?

They've been interfering with Net content. :chris:

Outside Hawaii. On the things to do list is bundle up the machine and see if I can find a free WiFi hotspot on the island for continued troubleshooting.

As far as Comcast, actually, not. It's Roadrunner/Time Warner out here (I think--the connection came with the rent). It works fine on Comcast.

And no, it isn't a time out. It's something else. I get "Connecting to the server", "Retrieving update", "Error retrieving update", all in sequence, about as fast as you can read the out loud. :garamet:

I haven't tried looking at the wiring past the Linksys yet and I haven't tried anything like pinging or doing a traceroute.

In the meantime, you can go to AVG's site and download the latest update and manually install it (you have to turn off the auto-pick Internet option on the updater, then select Folder when it goes to update).

Nah. I'd thought that, before pulling a successful DL with no hiccups while I was in Portland.

It's just some weirdness at this apartment. Ooh, yeah. I can rule out the Hawaii thing Kyle suggested, because it DL'ed fine at both the other locations I'd been that had WiFi. Then it didn't work on my link here in the new apartment. But it worked again at my friend's house in Portland. Now it doesn't work again now that I'm back at the apartment.

And for the record, AVG, Firefox, MS, and Spyware S&D all update just fine. Just not Ad Aware.
