I need to try this. I've actually never tried either, so now might be a good time. Which is more important?
it's a peanut butter and jam sort of thing. The coffee (20 oz Peruvian. Dash of cream and a tea spoon of simple syrup) to get going, then the nicotine smooths it out.
I'm working on vaping as a substitute. It's odd, as I don't get coffee until the shop across from me opens at 7 but I won't start really wanting a smoke until I get that first cup started. Trying to delay that trigger to response habit.
gawd, yeah... we technically have an hour, but because of the way our day is structured around a 1030 huddle we're usually in the midst of seventeen things at lunch time. It works out, as there's a lot of 10 minute patches where nothing's happening between the chaos, but I usually just wind up grabbing a pizza slice or a burrito.
I find I am eating a lot less lately. And my fridge is full. I'm going to have to start freezing stuff. I don't know how to can! Damn, those pizzas look good!
I made black bean burgers last night. Used flax seed and beets and a couple of finely chopped black olives. Topped it with Parm cheese and some mozzerella since I have both leftovers from making lasagne previously. The black bean burgers were so good! I'm not vegan or vegetarian but sometimes end up eating like I am.
I'm hoping to cook up some beans, taters, bake some cornbread, and slice up some tomatoes and onions this coming week. It's a simple meal, but damn it's good.
this was my take out tonight. There's a LOT of snow on the ground the last week and temps are around 10 below, so Jamaican food is a must...
it tasted better 15 years ago when it was half the price, but... it's a jerk joint called Rasta Pasta I've been eating since the owner was a one man show at a food cart court-now he's three store fronts in a row with at least two dozen people working for him. Terrific fellow who's since become a community pillar.
I was happy for all the restaurants here who recently got on the Michelin Recommended list, but the one that made me happiest was a Jamaican place because it's just a mom and pop operation that happens to make outstanding jerk and fried chicken. My only complaint is that it's not in my part of town.
Kensington Market borders one of the Chinatowns of Toronto (I think we have at least four distinct ones) on our east, and Little Portugal and Italy to our west. Factor in a ton of variety from the UofT along College Street and in KM itself, and I'm living the dream for <$15 takeout.
Felt like making sliders but didn’t feel like making a fire so I just cooked them in a pan. Topped with bacon jam, gouda, and bread and butter jalapeños.
I didn't document it with photos, but last night I fried pork chops for dinner and heated up a container of Bob Evans mashed potatoes. What's funny is that I discovered that our local grocery chain sells that but the nearest Bob Evans restaurant location is in Missouri. Either way, they're pretty damn good and way easier than making mashed potatoes from scratch. The pork chops were perfect.
I went to a gas station looking for the cheapest hot protein they had and got a Philly cheesesteak egg roll. The cheesesteak was good. The egg roll was good. But texture and flavor wise, those two did NOT want to be seen in the same room together.
So Saturday I didn’t have enough charcoal to finish grilling all the chicken thighs my wife bought. So I cooked the rest of the ones I had long enough to give them some smoke flavor without bringing them up to temp and then put them in the fridge thinking we’d put them in the oven or microwave them until they hit 165. Then I got the idea to fry them. I read about some barbecue place recently where the customers complained that the smoked half chickens were soggy so the owners started cooking them to 160 and then, when a customer ordered one, sticking the chicken in a deep fryer for a couple of minutes to bring them up to temp and make them crispy. Unlike them, I dredged these in flour like regular fried chicken and then fried until the outside was crispy. Tasty. I doubt that I’ll go to that much trouble to do it again though.
That sounds good, but unfortunately the nearest White Castle is 900 miles away. Krystal opened some locations here about fifteen(?) years ago but they didn't last (and one of them was literally across the street from a high school).
Another day, another lunch at the nearby burger place. I was actually wanting one from a different burger joint that I like better, but both of their locations are farther than I was willing to drive. And I like them better mainly for their fresh-cut fries because the cheeseburgers are pretty equal. And only $12 will get you a combo basket at either place, though that's a double meat burger at the fresh-fries place, which is really too much food for lunch. And the good news is apparently the Lebanese guy has retaken ownership of the place I went today. It was great to see him back in charge.
