At my last "wellness visit" I told my doctor about my cataract replacement surgery and posited that the opthamologists who do that surgery may be the happiest doctors on earth. As long as they don't screw up, the vast majority of their patients (like me) are going to leave the offices happy as pigs in slop. Contrast that with oncologists who's idea of "good news" might be telling a patient that thanks to a new cutting-edge therapy they can look forward to an extra six months. At any rate this hits home since I have a pancreatic cyst that's being monitored with regular MRI's. At last word it was getting smaller and showing no signs of going sour. I hope the regular MRI's mean that if something does start going south it will be detected early, which with any cancer is a good thing, but still....
I had two aunts who have had this. One died less than a year after diagnosis in '06 and the other seems to still be thriving despite a diagnosis in December 2019 and ignoring all of Alameda Counties 9000 COVID restrictions. Maybe she has the same type of pancreatic cancer that Steven Jobs probably would've survived if he weren't a kook. 13 percent ain't much but it's a larger number than 5.
