Getting fit
When did this get so hard?
![]() Got weighed a couple of months back, had a bit of a shock - gone up 20kg in 12 months. Thats what taking girls to food places does for you... Then they fucking dump you for retarded reasons, but I digress. Spent the last 3 weeks building my fitness back up - when I hit the gym again I managed 20 minutes on the crosstrainer before looking like a fucking fish thats suddenly found itself in the Sahara. Back up to 40 mins, 3 times a day now. Lost 5kg and over 3 inches round the waist doing that, which given how my muscle tones improved is a fuck load of flab burned off! ![]() Added to that, for my first gym visit, after the 40 mins I do 3 sets of 9 weight machines, all arms, pecs, abs and back, the other two visits, 3 sets of 4 machine, 2 arms, 1 abs, 1 pec. I walk to/from the gym, adding 3x30 minute brisk walks to the whole affair (I use it to worm-up/cool down) New target, end of Oct - lose another 4 inches, and maybe 15 kg. I figure spending 4 hours a day in the gym, combined with my diet (one small tin of baked beans for breakfast, one medium tin of soup for tea, only water drank) should do it as it restricts my daily calorie intake to 374 calories, whilst I'm burning off 2500 via exercise, add to that the bodys own requirements and I should be burning the lard off quite well. Giving myself a break off the diet every 2 weeks, so I don't go totally insane, and give my body a chance to rest for 2-3 of days before going back on it, and then after October I'm going to start using the gym less and increasing my calorie intake to reach a happy medium sometime in December. As it is, expect me to be an angry, miserable, depressed fuck for this month!

Re: Getting fit
Sounds like a literal recipe for disaster.
4 hours in the gym? I spend a half-hour working out 4-5x per week, and I'm in great shape. I eat close to 4000-5000 calories per day sometimes, and I don't gain fat. In fact I have lost a lot of fat the past year. Its not all about restricting calories to burn off fat. Your insulin is supposed to be your fat burning tool, and you're going to fuck that up by restricting your calories. Not too mention that just as soon as you lose the weight and start eating normal again, you'll gain it back twice as fast. Simple way to lose fat? Quit eating carbs. Eat more eat. Eat more fat and I'll promise you that your fat loss with exceed anything a diet like you mention will achieve. Also, take Omega3s if you already aren't. I've become quite convinced that Omega3s are a fat burning tool by themselves. Combined with exercise, I literally can't gain fat anymore. Sure, I get bloated if I binge, but shit....I can't get fat anymore. |

Re: Getting fit
In the long term yes, it's why I'm only doing it for 2 sets of 11 days with a break inbetween. After that I'll be running back up to 1000 a day with 2 hour a day in the gym until I reach a point where I can hit the gym 3 times a week.
I have to burn my weight in a short length of time, nature of my worklife and my personality means I have to do as much as possible whilst I have the determination and not working in some armpit of a place with just a KFC for sustinence. Plus my heads in a bad place right now, and I need something to focus on. This ought to do it.

Re: Getting fit
Don't look into them. Just take them.
You can thank me later. Right now I'm popping close to 20 per day. Which is insane by some standards, but people aren't lifting what I'm lifting, nor do they workout twice a day sometimes. I do. And Omega3s are the single greatest tool that allow me to do that. |

Re: Getting fit
350 calories a day? You're just going to be losing all that muscle you built up and end up skinny fat.

Re: Getting fit
I'm going to be a tad more sensible and heed your advice - I'm adding in fruit and a pint of full fat milk, which should take my intake to around a 1000 a day.

Re: Getting fit
I could not fucking survive on 1,000 calories a day. Nothing worse than getting hungry and running out of gas in the middle of a workout, and my various sources of protein alone probably put me past that mark. Because nobody asked or cares, here is my typical daily diet:
7:30: Banana, fat burner pill, multivitamin. 8:30: 17mg protein shake. 9:30: Apple. 11:30: Two medium-sized hunks of meat on whole grain toast. Usually steak. Another fat burner pill. 2:00: Banana. 4:00: Energy/protein(23mg) bar. 7:00: 17mg protein shake. Sometime after 8:00: At least one more hunk of meat. Usually a grilled burger or a couple of brats.

Re: Getting fit
Christ, I'd die eating that!
Even when I wasn't dieting, my food intake usually consisted of three meals with the rare snack. And the meals tended to be cereal for brekkie, fruit for lunch with a decent evening meal. I had a weekend off dieting, and I could barely manage a burger as an evening meal.

Re: Getting fit
For the sake of full disclosure, I added a bowl of meaty chili to my usual "2 steaks on whole grain toast" lunch today.
Also, there are usually a few beers or something along those lines included with my final meal of the day.

Re: Getting fit
Yup. The trick (at least for men) is to not do some sub-1000 calorie starvation diet. Have a respectable 2000 calories--just spread it out over the day. The goal is to eat roughly every 3 hours. Small meal, snack, small meal, snack, small meal. That way your body doesn't think "Shit! Who knows when I'll get food again? I'd better convert this to fat," it uses it to burn as energy and to build muscle.
And drink the water. 1/2 gallon to a gallon a day. Men can build a lot of muscle mass, and even resting muscle burns a buttload of calories, so as you get stronger it is easier to keep weight off.

Re: Getting fit
Im a tad worried that supposed real men know anything about calorie content!
![]() I've never investigated them, but admitedly Im one of those people that can eat continual truckloads of shit without putting on any weight. Since the golf seasons been over, I've been working on cv fitness, which is the one thing i've noticed has gotten worse over the years. At the moment Im doing 5km's 5 times a week. First week I took it easy to break me back in, now i'm hitting it pretty hard, about 17minutes im averaging. Not sure how that compares to proper runners, I've never been in any clubs or anything. Just put the trainers on and run. I know that 5kms isn't going to turn back the clock to my school days of competitive swimming training 6 times a week, but its got to be better for me than going home and lieing on the couch all night.

No different than paying attention to the fuel and oil you put in your car.
