Super Bowl Commerical, your thoughts

Ok so Im here near the end of the 3rd quarter and by now we have probably seen all the decent commercials that will be.

Best Humor: Megan Fox / Motorola. That one was just too damned funny

Most Useful: homeaway.com. With a family of 5 we wind up renting homes rather than hotel rooms

Funniest is either Megan Fox or Brett Favre in 10 years with the MVP trophy Car commercial.

Megan Fox, Brett Favre and the Bridgestone wife/life commercial were the only worthwhile ones.

Re: Super Bowl Commerical, your thoughts

I didn't realize it before, but I found out searching for the Megan Fox/Motorola commercial...

...that ISN'T Megan Fox's hand shown holding the Motorola gadget. How does anyone know? Because Megan Fox has "clubbed thumbs," a minor (and, in her case, only cosmetic) genetic defect.

Still, I wouldn't kick her out of bed just because her thumbs are kinda creepy...

Re: Super Bowl Commerical, your thoughts

Best ones IMO were:
- "Betty White" snickers commerical. + Abe Vigoda FTW!
- Megan Fox Motorola ad
- "Awesomer" Emerald Nuts/Pop-Secret spot
- House made out of Bud Light cans commercial

The others were pretty much lame, I thought.

Re: Super Bowl Commerical, your thoughts

I thought the Audi commercial was a complete break with reality and perhaps the most effective anti-green commercial there ever was.

But overall I thought this batch of commercials were quite clever and entertaining.

The Audi commercial was stupid, and made me hope the company fails.

This comes from an Audi driver who formerly adored the company.

Best Super Bowl for Pepsi ads EVER!!!

(Of course Coca-Cola just had to go and stick their foot in it . . . although they partly made up for it with the second ad.)

I thought that the Bud Light House commercial was the best.... and the Bridgestone tire wife/life commercial wasn't far behind. The Doritos one with the kid slapping the shit out of his mom's date was just too weird. The Green police one wasn't very well thought out either. The Dove soap for men commercial was just too gay.

My favorite was the Green Police one, just because it both lampooned the green movement and had the balls to try to sell a car to it in the same ad.

Without commercials, there would only be networks like HBO, and programming such as the Sopranos, Big Love, Deadwood, Rome, Weeds, Hung, The Tudors, and miniseries such as Band of Brothers and From The Earth To The Moon.

We would be forced to live without reality shows.

I do not see this as a tragedy.

Re: Super Bowl Commerical, your thoughts

I would be ok with a network showing less commercials, but incorporating products into their shows. For example, on How I Met Your Mother, they could drink Pepsi products and have Dell laptops. Not flat-out say it, no, just SHOW it. If that meant only one commercial break per show, I'd love it.

They're already doing this to an extent. If you watch the credits for a show like House, you'll see that companies like Apple and Dell have paid to have their products featured in the show.

Re: Super Bowl Commerical, your thoughts

They've been doing that for a long time, although not always paid product placement.

Some years back, I listened to a radio interview with a man who used to work in the field. I guess he'd drop in on a show or movie in shooting and watch for an opportunity. And sometimes there would be a gap in the script. Maybe a character would be at home and there'd be a knock on the door. Fine, but what was she doing before that knock? And then this man would jump in and suggest, for example, "Well, maybe she's having a turkey dinner with her family." (He was working for the State of California at a time when California had a lot of turkey farmers.) And if those in charge liked the idea, he'd supply the turkey and that would be that.

Come on, the best one was the 'green police' ad.

Nothing like seeing the green movement commit suicide during the Super Bowl.
