Some of the best reasoning I've ever heard for the existance of the christian god. Brilliant stuff http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P47OC439x88&NR=1
Not bad, but I prefer the wisdom of Pat Condell: [YT="A Secular World is a Sane World"]GXzladhscMQ[/YT]
Nope. You just watch an atheist pretend he is a religious nut. The only thing remotely funny are the idiot comments that think he's serious.
It is a pretty obvious effort at mocking, and not particularly well done. That doesn't change the fact that the "arguments" he mockingly offers are the standard arguments in favor of god's existence. The point of the video isn't to convince anyone not to believe. Rather, it's aimed at agnostics and people who waver in their atheism, not at theists, and its point, to the extent that it actually has one, is to highlight for people who already don't believe exactly how silly the arguments in favor of theism are. I don't think the video does a terribly good job of that. There are better ways to convince people to throw off the framing of theism and openly accept their lack of belief in god.
The arguments are pretty much as good as any i've ever seen posted by anyone on wordforge .... And that includes tasvirs most brilliant insights....
Why the hell do Atheists care so much? Why don't they do what they claim they want Christians to do and mind their own business?
If the person spends a bunch of time talking about their lack of stamps and bitching about people who do collect them and well as do everything they can to get collectors to stop collecting...then yes, I would say they do, in fact, have a hobby of their own.
Oh come on, this is a discussion site. What better subjects could there be for discussion than religion? Its more interesting than politics or music or heaven forbid board personality politics... Id rather discuss space travel, or physics, or archeology or something, but... not a lot of that goes on around here...
It's called "Techforge" and it's thataway. There is life outside that there Red Room! Oh, and my point still stands...if you vociferously have to discuss, support, or try to spread a non-belief it has pretty much become a belief of it's own. I don't believe Narnia is in my closet and amazingly don't feel the need to talk about it all the time either. Funny that.
Theres a slight qualitative difference between belief in Narnia and human religion... given human history.. and present. Religion is important and large, Narnia is small and rather dull Tell me, when i used to argue with JohnM about whether we landed on the moon or whether the American govt was actualy in collusion with aliens was that religious behaviour.... Or is it only when someone questions your beliefs that you deem it to be a religion in itself?
The time, effort, legislation and support groups for Athiests is a good indication of how dedicated some of them are to their beliefs. The moon landings are verifiable facts that only a nutjob would question. Religion, no so much. The situations are not really comparable.
Well, how do you know they aren't doing it, if you only take note of the ones who are doing this shit? My point being that there may be an awful lot more minding their own business that you aren't aware of, because they're doing just that. I for one am an atheist who generally minds her own business.
uhh well i wouldnt support any of that... They are not verifiable facts.. there is circumstancial evidence on both sides (obviously much more on the moon landings side) You would have to visit the moons surface and look at trhe footprints for the evidence to not be circumstancial. Oh and given the history of religions, how many of them have existed and their individual beliefs put religion firmly into the 'questionable' category
But she wasn't talking to "atheists". She was talking to "atheists that make atheism their hobby". Is that you?
... Moon landings are not questioned by anyone rational...to most it is a fact. Religion is questioned by everyone at some point and most evidence is unprovable or debatable...that is why they are not comparable. I never said religion wasn't questionable.
Hey, I'm not knockin' ya, pallie. A mug's gotta have something to do with his free time. I just don't dig dudes who get into the act and then pretend that they aren't playin' the game, like Danny Leach.
