Anyone who could support that has got to be the most naive, brainless, hopeless, ovine human being imaginable.

Either that, or some kinda sadistic MF'er who knows exactly what it would end up like, but just doesn't care or in fact welcomes that nightmarish future.

I mean, seriously. How come there are actually some people how think it's a good idea? The inherrent BADness of it is so glaring that most people no matter what political stripe they are can see it instantly, but yet there are some people who don't.

    Y'know..?

Because they think its for the better.

None of them actually take the time to critically think about the massive differences from country to country, and how difficult, if not impossible it would be to assimilate them all into one style of ruling law.

Or we understand the difficulties - we're just not of the opinion that they're insurmountable.

I guess the adage with you is "it's too hard, so fuck it, why try?", huh?

What an impressing onslaught of arguments. My, now I wish all of humankind would split up into eternally warring family clans :rotfl:

I suggest you read the works of George Orwell.

If you still think a OWG is a good idea after that, you will be clinically full of fail.

Don't worry, MF. It'll be long, long after we are dust that humankind will become smart enough to stop fighting itself and look out to the stars. You'll be able to sit at home and slowly drink yourself to death while watching AMERICA'S COOLEST WARS for all of your natural lifetime.

MF felt his opinion was so important that it needed it's own thread. Nobody should miss it.

I find it interesting that it's the exact same thing DaleD does. :bergman:

Well actually, my major problem with a 1WG is this:

    Nowhere to hide.
    Nowhere to run.
No outside pressure to check excesses and put a brake on tyranny.

It wouldn't be that bad in the far future if we had large populations living independently on planets, moons and/or space colonies throughout the solar system (and possibly beyond). Earth could go 1WG if it wanted, there would still be the option to go somewhere else if you didn't like it, different planets would be like different countries today.

But for as long as we're confined to this rock, a 1WG is about the worst idea going.

    Are you insinuating something?

    Hey, you are insinuating something!

Well, about Daled... I don't know whose dual he is, obviously someone's, but I can say with an utter certainty that he is not mine. The mods could confirm this if you want.

Oh, I've no doubt we'll have a one world government at some point. But who's to say that that government will be run by humans?

Judging by the attitudes of some folks here regarding the US, I'm not sure it would ever be in the US and it's citizen's best interests to participate in a one world government.

Well, I don't agree with centralised systems of government. Power should be devolved to the lowest effective level. That's why I don't support it.

I basically agree, but there needs to be something on a high level too. It's my model for Europe - abolish the nation states, abolish the federal states within them. There's only the 'region' which handles day-to-day stuff and Europe, which handles foreign policy etc.

Yeah, perhaps. But at that point, I'm not sure you can call it a government any mroe than you can call the current UN one.

The idea of "one-world government" has been demonized by generations of fundies who have preached that it's a sign of the End Times and that it's rise will herald the rise of the anti-christ (or the A-C will rise to power through the OWG). Americans have been weaned on decades worth of these boogey-man stories.

How much influence and input would you like a country say like China to have in your life and how you live?
