Every year about a thousand US kids drown because people won't give up their swimming pools, or because they insist on fishing instead of eating fish caught by commercial fleets. Four thousand kids die in car accidents because people refuse to give up their cars.
Well if numbers don't matter, then why shouldn't we ban spoons after someone uses one as a murder weapon?
Is a spoon designed to be a weapon? How many massacres have there been of school children with spoons?
The largest massacre of US school children didn't involve any firearms. My housemate skipped class Monday because her school received a threat to "Kill Them All by 10/8/15" along with a possible reference to the Beta Uprising and ISIS. She's not allowed to carry a gun there, so instead of running the risk of getting put up against a wall and executed, she declined to attend that day. Her teacher made fun of her for being afraid, right before the college president told all the students that attendance was optional as the campus police coordinated with local and state police along with the FBI's federal counter terrorism task force. Would anything you propose keep a gun out of the hands of a determined terrorist when there are 300 million in circulation?
And if you're interested in saving the lives of children, you should focus on cars and swimming pools - or Planned Parenthood which is larger than all other causes of death combined - by a factor of about twenty.
But @gturner is fine with fertility clinics. And @Soma's too stupid to follow the conversation. Dance, little monkey, dance!
No, we work to arm the kids so they can defend themselves when ISIS shows up. Do you have a plan that would have worked for Beslan, or would've stopped school massacres in Europe? In one case in Korea a cop was going around shooting people in the head. Disarming everyone except the killers isn't going to work out so well.
Oh, that reminds me of another leftist inconsistency - we can't deport 11 million illegal immigrants because reasons, but we'd have no problem at all cleaning up three hundred million guns.
Heck, they think they can stop the flow of guns when every single person flooding across the border could be carrying an RPG and AK-47.
Then try arming some of the teachers. Why do all these massacres happen in "gun free" zones? Because the killers don't like victims who can fight back. It kind of ruins the whole massacre aspect.
Terrorists love guns and explosives. For a while they tried using ice cream treats but it just didn't inspire any fear.
Where is the evidence that any of these mass murderers were "gunlubbers"? Wouldn't a "gunlubber" actually OWN their firearms and not get them from their mother?
A thread about American youth killing each other and suddenly Gturner has ISIS showing up at schools. Do any gun owners with a firm grip of reality want to step in?
Actually he isn't that far out. About three years ago at a bus drivers workshop (we have to attend a three hour workshop every year to get our recertification) we had to watch an extended video about what to do if terrorists seized our school bus, kidnapped the students, and then tried to use the bus to get a large bomb onto school property. I'll admit I mocked it a bit. I said "I can't get students to stay seated and they expect me to go toe to toe against Al Queda"
Good point about banning guns with 300 million of them in circulation. You know that tired old saying "when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns?" Cool, let's take take that to heart: Imagine (don't nut yourselves anti-gun crowd) that our government outlawed guns and searched every house and by golly all the law-abiding people complied. All the Forbins of the US are now without guns. Mission accomplished! Now the "gun nuts" are controlled but the no-shit "I don't give a fuck if I go to prison because I'm already a career criminal" types hide theirs. Or maybe they buy smuggled guns from Mexico. Yes, those drug/people smuggling pipelines will work for guns too. If anything it's easier to smuggle guns than drugs/people. But wait, there's more! Drugs are illegal, yet the US still consumes drugs smuggled from Mexico. So maybe people will break the law to buy guns smuggled from Mexico. Stiffen the penalties for possessing smuggled guns and now only the truly violent "nothing to lose" criminals will have them. And this reduce the violent gun death rate how exactly? Mexico has strict gun control laws - how is that working out for Juan Doe the farmer/factory worker? Let's see now... 1) the war on alcohol was an abject failure 2) the war on drugs is an abject failure 3) the war on poverty is an abject failure 4) the war on guns will be an abject failure
