And you're really one to talk, aren't you? :diacanu:

Issue? Hell, it's hilarious! "Looks like this was filmed in a brewery" was used as a riff for Space Mutany at one point, and I think it's great that Abrams actually did it. Why don't you ask one of your fellow Abrams Trek fans who actually likes the movie but thinks the brewery looks stupid what their problem with it was?

I think the brewery is stupid. If they're gonna dump millions into this, at least build an engineering set. :brood:

    Re: Engineering-

    1. it seemed far too big and too inefficient in the use of space for the size of the ship it was supposedly set on.

    2. jarringly "low tech" as opposed to the "apple store" motif.

    3. I MUCH more object to the slapstick use of the set than the set itself

Real Apple stores are run by power plants, which in turn aren't pretty.

    BIGGEST STAR TREKS EVAR.

All that money, despite the presence of Khan ruining the whole movie.

And once again as in 2009 some Star Trek "fans" equate box office performance with "quality".

Oh, look, some CUNT who can't defend their movie is making an ad hominem attack. How cute. :diacanu:

Especially in light of at least some of them hating on the LotR movies in spite of them having all the same "qualities" they defend Abrams Trek with. ;)

Funny, you don't see me dog every single poster who says they like LOTR.

Funny, you don't see me turn threads about LOTR into 50-page whine-fests.

That's because I have this thing called a life.

    And I'm not a fanboy.

So I really don't care if someone liked the LOTR movies, whereas I particularly did not.

    See the difference?

    No?

    No?

    Bueller?

    *crickets*

    I'm not surprised.

The difference is, I don't dog people who like Abrams Trek, but you and others sure do your best to dog the people who don't. I never start anything, but I'll sure respond in kind. I'm also not the one to turn threads into whine-fests, because again, I'm never the one who starts it you are! You and all the others who take every opportunity to derail any thread having to do with Abrams Trek, all to troll Dayton, and to a lesser extent me. But you want to know the real difference? I like LotR, and yet I don't dog you for not liking it. In fact, the only reason I bring it up at all is to point out what a hypocrite you are. Stick that in you pipe and smoke it. :bailey:

Just for the record, I thought LOTR was a snoozefest.

It's just not my style of sci-fi or fantasy.

    Incorrect.

The first movie was enjoyable, and it looks like the second one will be as well. So all box office performance means to me is the opportunity to make more enjoyable movies.

    Case closed.

I have a feeling the "report post" button is gonna explode in this thread.

After Captain X reported a bunch of my posts (and I may... may... have reported some of his) I've already asked the admins to consider making NuTrek threads Red Room rules.

Hmm. Well, I'm gonna go see it... like everyone else here.

But the Khan thing is a little disappointing. I was kinda hoping for a new villain.

Cumberbatch as Khan makes no sense at all. The writers of the movie have obviously never seen 'Space Seed'...

Not to mention the portrait of him wearing a turban. His background was an important part of his character.

Yet they recasted Khan with a white British guy? A guy who looks nothing like Ricardo Montalban? It's bizarre, because they took great pains to match up other characters' classic and modern actors...

Quinto has a resemblance to Nimoy, Pine has a resemblence to Shatner, Urban has a resemblance to Kelley... hell, even Alive Eve resembles Bibi Besch somewhat. And all these characters were born after the temporal incursion by Spock Prime and Nero changed the timeline.

Khan is the one character who should look relatively the same as he did before since he existed before the temporal change! They didn't have to get an Indian actor, but I'm sure they could have found someone else that looked a bit more like Montalban...

Anyway, it doesn't break the movie. I'm still looking forward to seeing it. Its just very strange. The new guy is KINO (Khan in Name Only). They might as well have just created an all new character....

They weren't already? Well, shit! I thought from the way insults were already flying back and forth when I showed up for this one that they'd been put on R3 (Red Room Rules). If I'd known that wasn't the case, I would have moderated myself a lot more in this thread. God damn it...

No, you see, dogging would be randomly trolling people in a discussion they aren't even participating in just to take cheap shots at them. I don't dog people, I simply respond to what they say.

If enjoyable is all you look for in a movie. Personally for 20 bucks (if you count food and drinks) I would like something more.

But if you and others like Black Dove are satisfied with "mere enjoyment" go right ahead

By the way, IIRC after inflation adjustments are made, Star Trek: The Motion Picture had considerably better box office performance than Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

Anyone care to argue that TMP was BETTER than TWOK?

I don't like the engineering section of the ship. It just doesn't look right. It does look too large for the ship.

I don't understand why they just didn't build an engineering set. They knew they would probably be making a sequel or sequels. They could have spread the cost out.

Plus it doesn't have to be as complicated as the bridge set and most of it can be CGI.

CGI costs money, too, though. ... Well, good CGI costs money. ;) I believe they had a set of some kind designed which actually wasn't bad, IMO, but the extra coin they got from Budweiser made that a pipe dream. Get it, a pipe dream... :ramen:
