I'm on the fence about seeing this. Seems like I wouldn't be missing anything if I waited for Blu (or HBO).

There was never any need to reboot this franchise. They could have simply plugged in different actors for Maguire & Dunst and kept the supporting cast in place. They could have shipped off Mary Jane to college or to California in pursuit of her acting career and introduced Gwen Stacy. They could have introduced the subplot of Peter's parents.

But starting all over again with a new origin story? Waste of time.

I wondered why tiic chose to reboot Spiderman so soon after the first set of movies. Granted the new flicks follow the comic cannon more closely, but still.

It has to do with the contract Sony has with Marvel. If they don't make a Spidey movie every so often, the rights revert back to Marvel. Same goes with the X-Men & FF and Fox

I generally agree with Paladin, although my comments are below in red if you want to read them. Paladin's spoiler doesn't work as a quote?

I just saw this tonight. Here's my four word review, and I think I'm being kind:

    Horrible piece of shit.

It's about time Sony turns the rights to Spider-Man over to the production team at Disney, who apparently actually know how to make Marvel superhero movies.

Did I mention that this movie was a horrible piece of shit?

Paladin is so totally wrong in his review. There is nothing good about this movie.

    I actually cheered when

I've felt no desire to see this at the theatre. It's not that I hated the first one, but I didn't find it special enough to be looking forward to a sequel.

I'm not sure where Spiderman went wrong. The first Spiderman 2 is usually listed in the top five superhero films ever made. It's an almost perfect piece of summer popcorn entertainment. But this new reboot.....meh.

ASM2 is definitely a very flawed movie, but "horrible piece of shit?" I don't think so. Its critical average at Rotten Tomatoes is 5.9/10, which sounds about right.

I'll add this: I'm more forgiving of movies that try to be too much than I am of ones that don't try to be enough...

Saw it this weekend. Despite not liking the lead actor very much, I absolutely loved almost the whole movie. Good humor, good drama, genuinely capturing Pete/Spidey's personality. Emma Stone is luminous, and very good casting as Gwen - thank god we finally got a good Gwen after three films-worth of a crappy Mary Jane. There was maybe a little too much of Goofy Max before he became Electro, and I'd have liked to see something other than another generic black leather suit on him at the end, but Fox was fine.

When it lost me was the rushed and perfunctory appearance of the Green Goblin, as if they suddenly decided to cram him in at the end (and skipped a generation!). And of course, instead of just going crazy from the Spider venom (which should have been The Goblin Formula), we also had to have inexplicable technological implants all over him dug into his skin disgustingly. They really should have saved that for a slow build in the next film, and saved Gwen's fate for then too.

I thought Andrew Garfield was a lot more believable as an angsty teenager than Toby. He and Stone really worked well together I thought.

Also, Electro is a dumb character overall. I hope he was more believable in the comic books.
