So, some friends of mine here in nowheresville decided to start up our own little magazine, having been inspired by seeing "Otaku USA" down at the local Walmart. Since that magazine was basically a huge slobbery blowjob to everything it reviewed, we thought we'd provide some contrast by offering up some real, hugely sarcastic commentary of our own. Of course our "magazine" is more like a big pamphlet and we've actually been giving them away for free Here's our website, with all of three glorious editions having been published so far. See if you can guess which pen name I'm writing under. Next issue out on April 20th, hopefully.
Nope. We do have a running theme for it, which only three articles follow (FLCL, Dead Leaves, and Madoka Magica). The actual physical "magazine" has a bit more for the theme of the month from the artwork we use for it. For instance this month is going to feature an anime Hitler on the cover and the centerfold will be some anime chick toking it up. As for guest articles, I guess we've decided that we're open to that. The guidelines are pretty simple. The article should only be around 500 words tops, you can use an image or two, but be sure to make sure you keep track of where it came from so we can credit it properly. If it's a review, be sure to say whether you recommend that the reader check it out or not. The levels are "Don't", "Maybe" and "Fuck Yeah".
Is this serious? I loled at the magazines name. Need any artists or any art contribution from artists? I can draw in that kind of style.
Maybe you could put up forums on your website like Anime News Network does. Or consider it in the future.
Huh, forgot I posted this here. Technically the forums are my SciFi-Online forums. As for art & reviews, we would definately be willing to accept contributions from others. The main thing is keeping with the sarcastic attitude of the 'zine. Even when we're praising something it tends to be pretty sarcastic. When it comes to length for articles, 500 words is pretty much the limit because articles are limited to a half-page on the physical editions, and that's at 9 pt font. That leaves a little room for a picture with a caption. I know it can be hard to cover what you want, but the idea is just to hit the main points, not to discuss things in detail. Just compare the reviews in my review thread to the articles I've written as Bolt Vanderhuge. Oh, that's the other thing - everyone has a pen name they're using. Most of us are using names from MST3K's riffing of Space Mutiny.
