Where's the love for us ? A few accounts say death from opioid overdose (including soccer-mom approved prescription pain killers!) is the #1 killer! Fentanyl of course is really kicking some asses. Color me surprised - we are the most over-medicated nation on earth. What say you wordforge https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/6/6/15743986/opioid-epidemic-overdose-deaths-2016
I don't know of any regular law abiding U.S. citizen "forced" to live in America. We need to build fences or walls to keep people from coming here illegally. Not to keep our own citizens from leaving (like the Berlin Wall). IIRC, the only people "forced" to stay in the U.S. are those arrested for attempting to travel overseas and join ISIS.
Can you believe Trump wants to cut programs to help people recover from addiction? Cut them like 2/3rds as well as programs designed to retrain recovering addicts to help them get jobs. I mean this is the man's base so you'd think he would want to help them but really he just doesn't give a shit about them just like not a single former coal miner is going to get their old job back but the fools lined up to vote for them anyway.
you do realize many folks who are hooked on prescription drugs or just plain prefer harder recreational drugs have no interest in weed, right? They have left it behind in their long interest in recreational drug use or they never did "street drugs" and figure if a doctor lets you take it, that makes it okay. Hey, call me crazy but who am I to stop you from killing yourself? It's a free country! At least you aren't burning down the neighborhood with your meth lab!
I still do not understand what is so appealing about opioids? I guess because the strongest I've ever had was Morphine. I remember the night one of the supervising nurses asked me if he could change the dressing on my foot and use the opportunity to instruct a pair of nurse trainees how to do it properly. Because the surgical wound on my foot would be exposed for a long time he worried about it being very painful so he gave me (through the PIC line) a massive dose of Morphine (that's how he described it). All I remember was a steady warm feeling spreading from near my right shoulder throughout most of my chest. It was mildly pleasant but nothing I would bother hunting down more Morphine for in the future.
I was being flip, ya wet blanket But I'm saying if we had legal medicinal MJ available more easily, there'd be a whole lot less people who start on opioids to begin with.
maybe the US citizens do drugs to deal with the ever-present guilt of living here in the greatest country on earth?
Says the guy who constantly makes america sound like a crime filled shithole on the verge of a race war..... You know who talks the most shit about America? Americans. The sheer volume of complaints is astounding.
Morphine is an opioid though, you are right, a relatively mild one. The hard core users generally migrate towards heroine or opium.
I'd say the fact that you're on a teachers salary in Arkansas after being fired multiple times confines and imprisons you in America.
That is natural. People tend to bitch about what they are familiar with so it will usually be the people from country X (pick anyone you like) who complain the most about country X.
damn straight.....we have that right. Move here, become a citizen, and you have that right too. No the US is not a "crime filled" shithole. Yes it's crime filled, but not a shithole. Regardless opioid overdose is the #1 killer lately - until a more powerful family of drugs comes along!
You do realize most people seeking relief from pain do not want to become junkies and would prefer a less severe drug like pot to deal with the pain. The vast majority of people are not horrible addicts who just want the strongest thing ever. They are people who want relief while remaining themselves and in control. They understand even though pot may not take away all the pain it is physically and mentally better for you than opiods.
All I can say is there is no cure for cramps like a Percocet. Immediate and total relief. If I had a chronic, painful condition I can very easily see a path to addiction.
I'm sure most people don't want to be junkies. But nothing takes away pain like opioids or their synthetics equivalents. And even if weed is less effective, many people do not want to deal with local "drug dealers" to ease their pain. Maybe if weed were legal in all states, people would be more likely to use weed - it would be interesting to study scientifically. No doubt studies are already underway. But I wonder why the US needs so many high-octane painkillers in the first place! In other words lets take all recreational drug users off the table. Why does the average US citizen need painkillers more than the average Italian/French/Korean/Japanese/German citizen? What are we doing (or not doing) differently compared to these countries?
What are yah, a commie? Painkiller junkies mean profit! If you're against profit, you're either a commie, or a faggot eunuch cuck!! Are you a queeeeeeeer, bo-ah!? I bet you could suck a peanut through a garden hose!
meh-it's really not that significant compared to many other clubs that go through it at least once a week. We're actually lower risk for this type of OD because we're able to be aware of who deals what and encourage people to use openly rather than tie up the restroom. Someone goes on a bad nod, me or one of my staff can catch it in relatively short time. Thing is this (fentanyl, GhB, etc.) has become such an occupational hazard that the naloxone training sessions are being organized by the bars themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if it became a component of server certification along with other intoxication recognition/first response.
damn these clubs sound like a depressing place to work. Actually any bar would be a depressing place to work.
no different than it ever was, other than now there's a greater awareness on the part of the barstaff on maintaining a safe atmosphere. OD awareness is just one more item in the potential first aid needs. I enjoy it... the music is usually pretty good, and gives me an excuse to be out on weekends socializing. Hell, I got the construction job through the place. Not too mention I can pull down $500 in tips on a good weekend.
While it is true that states that have legalized or heavily decriminalized MJ tend to have lower opioid addiction rates than those that haven't, it isn't clear that it is the MJ legalization/decriminalization and not just the fact that those who haven't tend to be red states who just have a higher addiction rate due to their lack of an economy, education system, social safety net, etc.
