http://www.thterrortime.com/movies/...ct-stephen-kings-doctor-sleep-shining-sequel/ Sequel to "The Shining". I really dig the book, but it's not scary like Shining, it's more like a dark superhero story. Hell, it almost belongs in the "off-brand superheroes", thread. Anyway, the director did "Oculus", and that's supposed to be really good, so I'm jazzed.
Haven't read it. In fact, I haven't read any of King's stuff in quite a while. These days I'm more into biographies and of course Neil Gaiman.
Intrigued, since I love the Stanley Kubrick film The Shining. I read Stephen King's original novel many years after seeing the film, and, though it was a good read, for me the film made a far deeper impression.
I wonder if they'll stick closer to the book, or if they'll try to make it more of a sequel to the movie.
Without Kubrick, it will be interesting to see if they do, do a sequel to the movie. The question is, can anyone mimic Kubrick? The only person I can think of that comes close is Nolan.
It's based on the book, so they don't have to go within a thousand miles of Kubrick if they don't want to. Any more than anyone doing "Ozma Of Oz", or "The Tin Woodsman Of Oz", has to match up to the MGM "Wizard Of Oz".
Rebecca Ferguson is joining in an as yet unnamed role. She's too old to be Abra, so she might be Rose The Hat. https://www.cbr.com/doctor-sleep-rebecca-ferguson/
New castings. Zahn McClarnon as Crow Daddy. Carl Lumbly as Dick Halloran. Alex Essoe as Wendy Torrance Also, Rebecca Ferguson confirmed as Rose The Hat. http://www.darkhorizons.com/mcclarnon-lumbly-eesoe-join-doctor-sleep/
And they've cast Abra. Kyleigh Curran. https://www.cbr.com/doctor-sleep-casts-abra-stone/ Never heard of her. She doesn't even have an IMDB (yet!). Here's her sparse Google results. https://www.google.com/search?client=avast&q=Kyleigh Curran
Ope, in just one hour, her IMDB went up, and her Google results filled up with Doctor Sleep stuff. Talk about overnight fame! https://www.imdb.com/name/nm7738797/
I know Doctor Sleep is a sequel to the *book* The Shining and *not* the Kubrick film, but I wonder if it will "quasi-sequel" the movie. Obviously, there are some big differences (e.g., Hallorann survives in the book), but wouldn't if be great if when
The callbacks in the trailer to Kubrick's masterpiece give me hope that they're following the route of his film, versus the inferior book. I await the
The Director, Mike Flannagan, also did Gerald's Game and Haunting of Hill House for Netflix. He's a good director, so I'm looking forward to it. I never understood the love for Kubrick's version of The Shining. He missed the entire point of the book which was ten times scarier. Not to mention the horrific and ultra-hammy acting from Nicholson and Duvall. Definitely NOT one of my favorites.
I love Kubrick's The Shining. I love it even more than the book. And the acting by Nicholson and Duvall? Terrific. Definitely one of my favorites.
Saw it, enjoyed it on the big screen for the first time ever. There was a pretty good turnout for it.
My local theater keeps re-running Goonies and Princess Bride every few months, and I never think to go.
