https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/john-cho-star-netflixs-cowboy-bebop-1199457 John Cho will topline Cowboy Bebop, Netflix's live-action take on the influential space Western anime, featuring castmembers such as Luke Cage actor Mustafa Shakir, Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) and Alex Hassell. Cho will play Spike Spiegel, which the streamer has describing as "an impossibly cool 'cowboy' (bounty hunter) with a deadly smile, a wry wit and style to spare. He travels the solar system with his ex-cop partner, Jet, pursuing the future's most dangerous bounties with a combination of charm, charisma — and deadly Jeet Kune Do." Shakir is playing his partner, Jet Black, "one of the few honest cops in the solar system before an ultimate betrayal robbed him of all that he loved, forcing him into a vagabond life of hunting bounties to put food on the table. Jet is an inveterate jazz enthusiast and captain of the Bebop." Pineda is playing Faye Valentine, an amnesiac thief and con artist, while Hassell is Vicious, Spiegel's ex-partner who is now out to kill him. Shinichiro Watanabe, who directed the original anime, is a consultant on the series, which first aired in Japan in 1998, spawning a manga and film before coming to America in 2001, where it developed a major cult following and unleashed a wave of anime.
I don't think I was ever going to agree with the casting of spike, but John Cho? I guess so. I will have to see.
they done fucked up https://bebop.home.blog/2019/04/05/live-action-cowboy-bebop-casts-huskey-for-ein/
What about all the corgi actors out there looking for jobs? They could have cast one of them. This is huskywashing at it's finest. The show is totally ruined.
Depending on the flexibility and acting ability Lachlan watson might be able to pull it off. Ed is pretty non binary, but the personality is something that needs to be captured.
Production has been halted for at least 6 months while Cho recovers from injury. https://deadline.com/2019/10/cowboy...iatus-star-john-cho-on-set-injury-1202764024/
Yes, and Cowboy is the in-story term for bounty hunter. TV Tropes uses this as the example for lazy journalism in reviewing "geek" culture. The journo assumed "Cowboy Bebop" was a character and put up a pic of "him" at "his computer" when the character in question was a young girl and the computer didn't belong to her.
Promo with Ein. Production is halted for a time while John Cho recovers from an injury. I guess just wrapping him up in mummy bandages like Spike isn't enough.
Since I bumped this, I was watching John wick 3 and thought keanu reeves would be a great spike speigel. Perhaps the perfect Spike and you could get lawrence fishburn to do Jet.
Holy fucking shit, that's them! Hair and costumes are nailed anyway, now I gotta see the performances.
No Ed? The fanbois are going to have a fit because Faye has way too much clothing on for their ferengi sensibilities.
I won't lie, I didn't have high hopes for this originally but between the casting and Netflix paying the original music composer to produce the soundtrack, I have the feeling that it won't be the next "Ghost in the Shell," at least.
The fanbois are going to have babies over this. I remember the meltdown over stairway to heaven. Every wannabe edgelord critic came out against what was a pretty good movie because it was cool to hate on something new. Being able to hate something that is well liked makes you edgy and a rebel according to many film critics. One of the problems of turning good animation into live action is that animation has qualities that attract and turn people off. When you cross over you might lose the qualities that make animation fans like animated series, and then you don't have an attraction to people who are simply put off by animation. Bebop has potential being a relatively action based space adventure. There is no real magic, and the action is all guns and martial arts. If the soundtrack is good, then the animation haters might enjoy it. I will wait to see it, but I don't have any expectation it will expand the bebop universe.
