Nope. You had to delete the rest of that sentence and the next one to make it sound like that. She said that that was when Soong started turning out synths that rivaled humans; and that that moment +30-40 years, was not now, but when Oh infiltrated the Federation.

This is why your stance seems so childish and ridiculous. We love discussing plot holes and nitpicks; it's like 50% of what Trek fandom does. But when you intentionally change what is said on a Picard episode in order to create the false appearance of a very minor nitpick and then conclude that "these writers make lazy mistakes all the time!", you're playing a very different game.

I didn't intentionally change anything she literally said, "Thirty, forty years ago Dr. Soong starts turning out synthetic life.” She doesn't say anything about it being in relation to Oh joining Starfleet. It wouldn't matter if Oh had infiltrated Starfleet a week before this conversation takes place or 100 years erlier, it doesn't change the fact that Raffi said what she said which is a continuity error.

That is just plainly false. Here's what she actually says, word by word, starting at 44'40:

Yes and the first sentence is all that matters. Raffi is saying that 30-40 years ago Soong created synthetic life. The rest is irrelevant.

So now you're admitting that you have to treat most of what she actually said as irrelevant in order to make this out to be a mistake. It would be nice if we could get to this point faster next time. It's tedious.

So, as much fun as bitching about one line is, we’re ignoring the real question posed by that episode - who is Beautiful Flower (or rather, androids like him, given that Maddox apparently churned out a lot of Sojis).

I’m guessing a “living” version of Data, myself. Then nobody can bitch about how he ages ever again.

Though, “flower” in Basque is “lore”...

I don't think I had seen this mentioned in this thread yet. Listen to the background music Picard's "son" is playing in Inner Light.

Yes. In an episode of Wil Wheaton's recap show The Ready Room, the composer specifically mentions this episode and the alien flute Picard played as inspiration for the theme song. They really nailed who Picard is, IMHO.

    Watched Episode 9.

Well, I was wrong on the Data appearance, but only sort of. Kind of like the direction they went instead. No spoilers.

The way it all went was not how I hoped it would go, but probably logical. Interested to see where they leave it with the finale.

I've come to the conclusion that the entire Elnor subplot, if you want to call it that, was unnecessary filler right from the start. The character is unnecessary and uninteresting, his contributions could have been omitted entirely with minor script revisions, and he serves no real purpose in the narrative. Raffi is not quite that bad as a character, but almost. Michelle Hurd is doing her absolute best with what she's been given, which isn't much.

When you think about it, Hugh had 'more to do' and was more vital to the plot than either Elnor or Raffi. Arguably, you could have omitted Seven and reworked things so that Hugh did all her 'stuff' except for the one episode where she disintegrated the crime lord.

If they are going to insist on teasing me with Seven every other episode, give the girl something more than these two minute cameos!

Obviously, not all is well in Android paradise. The spirit of Lore is as alive and well as the spirit of Data, obviously. Caine and Abel, baby!

Remains good stuff. Without having seen the finale, I'd rate this entire season probably 8.5/10.

Whoa!! It's amazing what a difference a change in outfit and body make up can do but is it just me or is Sutra a lot hotter than Soji? :fap:

I really liked this episode but I have a few bones to pick first....

    • I was a little annoyed that Alton Soong popped up out of nowhere. When Dr. Soong died in TNG, I was under the impression that he was the last of his family. I'm grateful to have Brent Spiner back but :marathon:

    • Is Agnes ever going to pay for what she did to Bruce Maddox? Why is she boldly declaring where she's going to go and what she's going to do?

I have to admit that I liked Raffi this episode. When Picard announced his terminal diagnosis to his crew, I got a little something in my eye and felt a little fart well up in my belly. I liked the scene where she finally admitted to Picard how dear he was to her.... and his awkward reaction proved that this is still the Captain Picard we knew back when.

This Sutra is obviously playing Soong and the rest of the Synths. I don't know what her game is but I wouldn't be shocked if she was the one that murdered that other Synth lady after she let Narek sing BYE! BYE! BYE! to her. Quit Playing Games To My Heart, girl!

Eagerly awaiting the SEASON FINALE next week!!

I think it’s curious they went with the direction of Brent Spiner playing another Soong (the DNA of that family tree must accept no maternal contributions). Even though they’re hinting at making him into an android as well, it seems a little gratuitous - both because it smudges the continuity on Dr. Soong pretty hard, and because they already played the “Brent Spiner plays another Soong” party trick on Enterprise. I’d have preferred him to show up like I had hypothesized previously.

What I am deeply concerned they’ll do is upload Picard to an android body to work around his illness. That would be really hokey.

Pardon the pun... but there seemed to be a lot of deus ex machina going on in this episode.

Love the series, but I suspect it's fumbling its way to an unsatisfying season finale. :(

This show is so fucking stupid.

    Soong had an actual son?

How easy is it to kill an android? Answer: pretty easy apparently.

How does a non Vulcan preform a mind meld?

The Federation will believe Picard? Really because every time she encounters Admiral Fuck she tells him to fuck off.

This show is Star Trek in name only. Murder is acceptable.

How it ends: just like Discovery second season, thousands of ships flying around like a Transformers movie, Seven gets the Borg cube operational and swoops in and saves the day. this show should be called Star Trek: Boring and Predictable.

Arik Soong was all about eugenics before switching over to artificial life, so I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he did something to his own DNA to make all his future offspring look and sound just like him, and to also be obsessively into androids. :async:

Genetics are a funny thing. On my mother's side of the family, there's a lot of variation in the family. On my father's side, we all pretty much look like clones of one another (even the women).

Borg assimilation left behind transmitter-less telepathy in Picard and Chakotay.
Apparently, telepathy has a science trick to it that can be dismantled and solved.
This is Trek, not Wars, they can kill magic all they want.
It was kind of the point to "who mourns for Adonais?".

I'm not saying you can't find some way to rationalize it, I'm saying it's stupid. I also think it takes away a special ability that was unique to Vulcan physiology.

Yeah, I thought she was a lot hotter this way too. It might also be how she plays Sutra, there's just something about how Sutra carries herself. It's more sensual.

BTW, using titanium as a reference and a Borg cube being roughly 3000 meters per side and with the Borg cube landing at 10 meters per second, with the Synthetics colony being 20 kilometers away. The colony would gave felt an earthquake of about 5.0 on the Richter scale.

That's just some rough numbers. I also allowed for the cuber having 25% the density/volume of solid titanium.

    Wait a minute......

These people would like to have a word with you regarding telepathy.

Betazoids were natural telepaths, an ability centered in their paracortex, with psilosynine being a main neurotransmitter.

The common psionic abilities of Betazoids extended from sensing thoughts and/or emotions, over projecting thoughts and/or emotions, to manipulating the minds of others.

They would all risk their lives because he asked them to. He wanted someone who would do it in spite of him, for the mission. Or at least that is what he said.
